Hello everyone. My lower branches on my small 4-6 plants are either turning compleletly yellow or turning yellow around the edges. I dont have any pics so im going to describe them the best i can. Their yellow around most of the edges with brigh yellow around the outer edge. They also have big pea size brown splotches all over the leafs. Im guessing a defficiency of some kind. Im giving it Kelp liquad nutes at half dose. More nutes? Addition of the NPK's? Im a virgin to growing so i need some guidence.:peace:

How old are your plants? I've read that you shouldn't use nutes on younger plants, Or at least very diluted nutes.

There about 2-3 weeks old and by 4-6 i meant 4-6inchers. Im using all naturuall, organic, kelp extract so i cant imagine using to much nutes. Anything else?

So can anyone tell me anything? Im worried that my plants arent getting enough nutes, and i feel i need to do something to make up for it because I hear that trimming branches or creating stress in other words stresses the plant into being a male. Come on fellos, throw the dog a bone.

Your info is very limited so my answers will be also.
If you are growing hydro:
Check your PH
Use very little nutes for young plants till about 4 weeks.
Drying up and dying of fan leaves is normal. As the plant grows it will pull nutes away from large fan leaves and use them for the newer branches underneath. The leaves will turn yellow with brown spots and die pretty fast...within a week that you notice the spots. DO NOT pull these off unless they are infested with mites. When it is time for the leaf to die...it will die.
As long as you have healthy growth under the dying leaf...its all good.

If you are growing soil:
Everything is pretty much the same except don’t feed it nutes till about 3-4 weeks.

Tip: DO NOT over mother the plant. It is a weed and given the proper environment it will hardly even need you.

Oxygen
Water
Light
Keep those three constant and you should be good.

P.S. This question could have been answered long ago with a quick search.....Pics are always helpful also.

I knew i was giving limited info, so i was just waiting for the right expert who could help me out. its a soil grow. I water daily, just enough to saturate the soil. I Have them under four 26 watt blue spec cfls, there very healthy, and compact. So i shouldnt even worry about the dieing leafs?

I have been cutting them off because i thought the nutrients would then be more useful for the healthy top, plus i plant on doing the sea of green method. So no more clipping?

Well you may not want to water daily unless your soil completely dries out every day. I use a cheap three in one meter to check moister level and I only have to water every 3 days or so for my small pots and every 6 or so for larger pots. Over watering will kill your plant but what the other guy said is true as well.

Yeah i heard about that and switched to watering every other day. So to much water will kill the under foliage, turning them yellow with brown spots?

Yeah man,

with my limited experience, dying fan leaves is a normal process. As long as you have healthy growth underneath. If you notice it starts at the tips and edges. Its just pulling nutes away from the unneeded leafs and using it for new growth. At least this is how it was explained to me and it made sense. That and I didn’t change anything and everything is fine.
My soil growth is not as strong as hydro. The Ph is gonna be different, but everything else pretty much is the same. Don’t worry about the plant unless it starts taking a drastic turn. They will tell you when something is wrong. It wont be a case of "I think something is wrong" it will be more like "shit everything is dying overnight"....that’s when you need to worry.
If the discoloring stays to the fan leafs then I think you will be ok.....just moving on to the next growth stage is all.

Bump this thread a few times and someone with a little more know how may be able to help if you show some pics.

P.S. If you are overwatering the soil the leafs will droop and look kinda heavy....if you underwater they will look tight and curl.
Seriously tho....its a weed, just let it do its thing.

P.S.S. STOP cutting your fan leafs.....im done now.

ok Well i added miracle grow with something like 20 20 30 npk and fucking over night all the yellow in the plants disapered and this one plant, that was yellow from top to bottom with purple streaks and shit showed a total turn around. I guess i didnt give a accurate enough description. It was deffinetly a nutrient defficiency. I feel like exploding in my pants, they are the healthiest plants i have ever laid my eyes on. MARIJUANA IS A HUNGARY BEAST, thats my observation, and whoever said young plants dont need nutrients a couple posts back was wrong. Tey LOVE IT.

Ok, well why dont a lot of other peoples plants leaves turn yellow? most of the plants i have ever seen dont even turn yellow during the flowering phase even with monster growing buds. they are beautiful throughout the whole life cycle.

"if you underwater they will look tight and curl."
curl up or curl down?

have to agree with the last few posts, the leaves at the bottom of my plant are all yellow and dry but i'm not worried, was gonna clip them off anyways as they were the first big leaves the plant sent out with 1 or 3 leaves and since the plant now has plenty of far bigger ones nearer the light its basically digesting those ones and letting them dry out. If it were any higher up than the first bud spot i would worry personally

you probably shouldn't water it daily, over watering is a common mistake. I don't water 2-3 days, they say until the top two inches are dry. It really doesn't need too much water. I've grown mine without any bought nutrients (atleast in the veg stage) so I don't know the plant might not like your kelp right now. so i would try laying off on the watering and see how your plant does
