If you have this problem again just dip the root into some cloning gel and then just plant it back down a bit deeper.
As well as helping it to root most rooting gels have an ingredient that helps to stop any rot

It looks like it may yet die to me but hope for the best huh.
You could always give it an extra chance by carefully parting some of the rockwool from the stem and dipping a cotton bud into the rooting gel and letting the gel trickle down the root.
