this is my first grow and i only have one plant, which is looking beautiful. I just changed to flowering two weeks ago and now i have all these little black flies poppin up. i noticed the majority of the bottom leaves are wilting and i dont know if its cause theyre not gettting enough light? or if the larvae of the flies are eating the roots? Anyway i bought some garden safe rose and flower insecticide from home depot (trying to stay cheap) cause thats all they really had left. Will this stuff burn my plant if i spray the whole thing?

Whats your set up, leaves probably wilting due to lack of light, ive grown for many a year and yes i do get flies too, but they just fly around the plants pissing me off, far more than the plants, post a pic of set up

well i dont own a camera at the moment. But basically the plant is almost 3 ft tall, growing in a 4.5' x 3' x 5.5' zip up closet and I only had two 100 Watt equivalent CFLs hanging right above the plant. The bottom of the plant was pretty shaded. Just yesterday i added two more of those lights down below so now its two above and two on the side and looking much brighter down below. Im hoping this will fix the problem. If i had the money or room for HPS i would def get one but as of now im limited to CFLs.

You can make your own solution at home that will get rid of mites, aphids etc. for far less money. Dish Soap, Water, Vinegar and a spray bottle is all you need. The dish soap has the same effect as the neem or soap product in that product you bought. Here is the recipe:

I used this recipe exactly, using 3/4 quart of water and 1/4 vinegar and a thin layer of Dishwashing soap on the bottom of the spray bottle. I used roughly 3/4 of the entire solution, dispersed evenly over 7 plants.
30 minutes after application, 6 out of 7 had gone from a beautiful green to a patchy yellow, and the problem became increasingly worse until the next day when I flushed the soil with Epsom Salt and water. Clearly, I ph burnt the plants - too much vinegar will cause this issue. Conclusion - this helps with bugs, but the recipe's proportions as listed above can be hazardous, so use sparingly. |
