well yesterday i saw about 5 little black bug things that look like nats flying around my daylight cfl and walking on my plant, today i looked in there and theres probably about 20 in there now, dont get me wrong there not big and i have watched one of them on the leaf and it didnt seem to be eating it but i dont want them there!

Like i said they look like nats, really small, black, fly franticly, go round by the lights..

What should i do?
Ive tried the garlic thing but that didnt help

Im thinking i will need to get some sticky pads?

anyone else know what im talking about & if they are a problem or not?

Thanks

Hi iToke - don't know if this is your problem but the following is from "Grow Great Marijuana" By Logan Edwards:
---
Fungus Gnats
Fungus Gnats are tiny black flies that are attracted to soils that are rich in compost and nutrients. They lay eggs on the surface, hatching into larvae. Those larvae feed on root tissue, including root hairs, and outer cell covering of the root; often leaving only the central tube of the root.

Signs of an infestation
External signs include discolored leaves and systemic plant failure. Fungus gnat adults will often run across the medium and may fly if the plant is shaken.

Controlling Fungus Gnats
Pyrethrum aerosols, as well as placing yellow sticky traps all around the plant, will help control the emerging adults. Gnatrol (containing natural Bt) is highly recommended.
---

Like I said, I don't know if fungus gnats are what you have but hopefully this will help.

I had some lil fruit fly looking guys like that. I sprayed my closet with Fox Farm's "Don't Bug Me" spray and haven't seen them since. It comes in a regular sprayer bottle. You just spray it all over your plants, especially under the leaves. Make sure you spray it while your lights are off, or it will burn them. Its made with natural Pyrethrum (from Chrysanthemum flowers)

You can make your own solution to kill them. Get a clean spray bottle, cover the bottom with dish soap, add 3/4 water, 1/4 vinegar. Shake gently and spray all over your plants. Make sure you get under the leave too, the hide there. Get the plant all sudsy, leave on over night and tomorrow, spray off good with clean water. The bugs will be gone. :peace:

This will work, trust me I have done this to my outdoor plants this year. As well all my budding flowers in my gardens. Roses get infested and this is only thing I found that kills them with out harming the plants.
Some people use isopropanol alcohol instead of the vinegar. I think it to harsh though and will burn the plant. The vinegar will make the leaves shine.
You can buy a Safers product as well as the other one mentioned on here which are basically the same that contains neem. The dish soap does the same thing though, suffocates the bugs. Check it out seriously. :peace:

i just put washing up liquid ()dish soap) on some card that i had covering my soil...the flys got stuck in it and died, seemd to work better  im pissed of right now!

The new leafs that were coming from the top look all soggy and do not look like they are going to grow now...

How much soap did you put in? I said to only cover the bottom of the spray bottle. Not even an inch thick. Sorry if it was presented poorly. Keep rinsing it off with clean water then.
Recipe:
  • Spray bottle that masures 700ml,
  • Cover the bottom with dish soap (just the bottom) I use the orange anti-bacterial kind
  • Fill 3/4 full with water (I use hard tap water)
  • fill the remaining 1/4 with vinegar
  • shake it gently to mix, do not over mix and create many bubbles though.
  • Spray all over your plants includeing under the leaves.
  • cover entire plant and leave on overnight
  • Rinse off with clean water in the spray bottle until dripping clean, let the plant air dry now and it should be bug free.
Sorry if didn't work itoke, it always has for me. :peace:
