Default edge of fan leaves: dark brittle rusty-looking w/ sm. white spots
Can anyone check this pic out and see what the heck is going on? Several leaves have developed this brittle dark rusty brown colored edges and tips on the leaves. It almost seems like a phosphorus deficiency, but there has been no leaf where this dark stuff has gone through the middle of the fan leaf like i have seen in some pictures. Eventually this brown brittle characteristic takes over the whole fan leave and it shrivles under. Mold? powdery mildew? larvae eating roots? or nute def.?
Thank you!

welcome to the forum. A lot of possibilties. Wind burn will make them look like that. Some pest will too. And then there is always the nutes your using or nute lock out because of salt build up in your growing medium. Could just be normal growth, the plant shedding the old leaves it no longer needs. Any ideas?? VV

I have never heard of wind burn. Sounds interesting because I do have a fan on them 24/7. I just dont want mites to enjoy the calm weather, you know? Someone must beable to identify the problem with these plants...its pretty specific. Small tiny white dots(sometimes it doesnt have it), brittle(at the dark/light green areas), on edges and works its way in . ?Help?

The closest related pic i found on google was for phosphorus deficiency, but it didnt look the same because mine has more white within the darkgreen/rusty colored areas. Thanks...?

Yes too much wind too often. get a dimmer switch or a "fan mate" and slow your fan down. or move it further away from plants.

Suprisingly, I have recently been keeping my fan on the lowest setting, compared to the high setting of which it used to be consistently running all day and night, and I have found some of the damaged leaf edges to seize its inward damage, and instead, it has turned into a more apparent rusty-looking color.

Once a leaf is damaged it will not usually come back. Just make sure its not spreading to more leaves. I find that the height of the fan in relation the the plant is a major factor. If the wind is blowing directly on the plant its not as good as getting the wind to blow mostly just above the canopy with a gentle shiver down through the leaves every now and again. One of my fans isn't able to be above the canopy and even on the lowest setting it always burns the lower portion of the corner plant closest to it. I put a dimmer switch on the cord and turned it down even further than the lowest setting. Now it is perfect. Hope this helps.

I tried like a muther to get rid of that on mine, repotted, flushed, new nutes and found out it was a calcium def. If you use the RO water it strips the calcium and if you use soil and don't ammend with lime.... you get the little spots that look like mites and then they get kinda grayish spots and then crumble in your hands. Cal-Mag.!
