Help with hermies...

Take a look at the attached plant. I've removed it because I'm pretty damn sure it's a hermie, but I'm confused. I thought hermies were plants with both male flowers and female flowers. What's going on here is individual flowers that are both male and female? There are definitely balls, coming off on little stem things, but then the balls sprouted pistles! What's up with that?

I'm pretty sad to have to have removed it because this plant has WAAAAAAY more flowers and pistles than any of the others at this point.

My question is this: I thought that hermies were plants with individual female parts and individual male parts.

This plant has parts that seem to be both male and female. It has things that look like pollen sacks, that then developed pistils. Is that what hermies actually are?
