I've been doing some reading some say purple stem are normal some say nute deficiency. I've kept the temps at 78 while lights on about 74 while lights are off. I've been giving them Fox Farm Grow big very little about 1/8 tsp per gal for 1st week. Today(about 2 1/2 weeks) I went to 1/4 tsp per gal and also added 1/4 tsp of Big Bloom. I'm using Distilled water with PH 6.5. Do they look ok or do they have a deficiency? Are they too small for 2 1/2 weeks old well closer to 3 weeks now. Oh I know I only have one pic but I have a few growing and they all look the same. Also they are bag seeds so not sure what strain. Thanks :)

Red and Purple stalks are usually a strain specific thing. It can signal a deficiancy, or an overabundance of chemicals but I don't think this is the case for you.

If you room was colder I would say that is it. 74 degrees with the lights on? What about when the lights are off

Oh, you got a seedling, my bad, coloring in the main stem, during this part of your grow, is VERY common! Very. Could pink, yellow, white, purple, even black in some cases. You are pumping water and nutes through a fresh little stem. Its all good. I would worry if the leaves turned these colors!

DO NOT PANIC. A seedlings purple stem doesn’t necessarily indicate an unhealthy plant. Please take the following possibilities into consideration:

1 - Purple Stems could be a result of that wonderful thing we call genetics, if this is the reason, you are to expect a purple stem throughout the life of the plant. It must be noted that purple stems aren’t a dominant trait, and are rarely genetically induced.

2 - A baby sprout with a purple stem is almost always 100% natural. Young seedlings are still adjusting to their environment and may be slightly lacking in a Nutrient. If this is the case, healthy plants will regain their green/greenish-brown color within a few days to a week or two.

3 - If you have ruled out the possibilities of genetics and the seedlings adjustments to life, you should begin looking for a nutrient deficiency. Purple stems are commonly caused by a Phosphorous (P) or Magnesium deficiency, if there is a P deficiency you may also notice symptoms such as brittle leaves or greyish spots. To assist the uptake of Phosphorous (as well as most other nutes) you should ensure the pH is slightly acidic-- 6.0 will suffice.

Same basic thing.

Short term shock, temperature, strain etc.

Usually strain, but some times its normal for baby stems to do that. The strain of the pot is a big indicator. Blue berry, OG, Some of the white buds etc. do purple stems. I wouldn't worry unless you see root or leaf problems. Also measure temperature, remember cold usually brings on purple and red.
