thrips??!!

i have done a lot of looking online about thrips, but i cant seem to find any info on if they destroy the actual buds themselves? i have a very mild infestation, the leaves only show very slight signs of them and i started using neem oil as soon as i saw them. does this usually fix the problem? or do these little guys end up taking over pretty much regardless of my efforts?

Well from what I understand there are thousands of different types of those nasty things so its hard to say if thats really your problem or not. Neem may work but I would back it up with a bomb. Those no pest strips work too. You can cover the soil with something so the eggs wont get in there and grow too.

Kill the adults and keep the eggs from hatching. You can squish them between your fingers too.

do those chemical pesticide bombs mess up your bud though? im only 2 and a half weeks into flowering, so if i did it now would it mke the bud taste bad or even toxic? lol let me know, thanks!

is that something you mix with water to put in the soil? or spray onto the leaves? does it affect the taste of the buds at all come harvest time?

yes you mix it @ 1 TBS per 32oz (quart) spray bottle full of water ......You spray on the leaves top and bottom and top of soil......it wont effect the taste http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BWY3OQ/ref=ox_ya_oh_product

if you want a systemic effect one that stays in the plant for 2-3 weeks get a PERMETHRIN CONCENTRATE.

Thrips are a real pain in the ass. Once they start in the soil they are practically impossible to get rid of! I have found that stirring the top half inch or so of soil to keep it very loose prevents thrips from being interested in the soil. This may sound strange too but I usually allow a fair amount of kitchen garbage a few meters away, old fruit peels and various lightly decomposing stuff in my garbage that they are way more interested in. It seems weird, but if you can get one type of bug to hang around the easy food, then those bugs compete with thrips that would go for your plants, and the ones with easy food win! Just my idea...

You can line the top and bottoms of your planting pots w/ 1/4 thick layer of sand to discourage egg laying.

I hate those little fuckers.

Like other sucking bugs they promote sooty mold (black) on leaves taking away from plants potential.

Good Luck,
DH

so i set off a pyrethrum thing last night, it dripped on one of the plants a little it killed a leaf, but thats it. hopefully it killed the bugs too, i didnt see any today, but they were hard to find before too so idk lol. if they come back up i figure ill use all of the methods that you all suggested simultaneously, seems like it could be an effective method. do these little guys eat the buds? or is it just the leaves but that obviously is bad too...

Good move, thing is though you just killed the adults.
in a couple weeks you will need to do it again but in the mean time cover the medimun so the next set of eggs will not get in there.
