yellowing lower leaves, n deff?
|
|
background: 4 plants in a grow box, they're about in their 3rd week of veg, they started out in 16oz cups of MG but after a couple weeks were transplanted into fox farm's ocean forest. they've been getting about a cup of water (tap, distilled for ~6 days) each every 2-3 days. temp averages 84-86 F. lighting is 6 23W CFLs, mylar all around the box.
a few days ago i started seeing yellowing of the lower leaves. early on, some just seemed like these leaves weren't getting enough light, but recently it's gotten worse and that's definitely not the problem.
it looks like nitrogen def from what i've seen, but I really was not expecting anything like that given my soil (i read i don't have to touch ferts for 2-3 months). unfortunately, they don't seem to list an NPK for the soil; although, the ingredient look like it should have good nitrogen.... as far as i can tell at least ~~
the pictures here are of, what was, my best plant. she showed the signs first, and is the best example. although the others look like they're going to be doing the same soon.
PS: any idea what's with the stem on the last pic (1099)? that's not normal.. is it? I think they're all kind of like that - ever since their first baby leaves started dying off (which i believe was natural)
THANKS!

you need food after 2 - 3 weeks not months. give 'em a little nitrogen. start off easy.

just got a a ph meter and measured my water supply to be running about 6.8.
also got some generic ferts that measure 24-8-12 and just fed them that (checked, didn't change the ph). *crosses fingers*
PS: i started them out at a little over 1/4th strength

that happened to my out door plant its about 4ft now and the first and second sets of leaves had yellowed and fallen off, im not too worried since its thriving now, i usually give it nutrients once a week, or i try to at least lol, theres no where to park a car near my spot so i have to bike and usually when im there i get high then the bike ride back to my house which is like 1 1/2 hour walk is virtually death by bike ride.

Amazing how much people fret about ph, yet totally ignore the EC and TDS of their irrigation water that can cause way more problems than out of whack ph in a soil grow.
I don't know how many more times I have to say the same thing before people start to understand what it means - soil buffers ph, high water EC + nutrients can burn your plant.
That 24-8-12 is way potent - for gods sake be careful with it, no more than 1/4 dose please, even if you see no signs of improvement - DONT increase the dose beyond 1/4.
