Hello, looking for some tips. I'm trying to grow for the first time. The plant hasn't really grown any for the past week or so and some of the leaves are turning yellow and getting spots on them.

White Widow started from seed (it broke through soil Oct 1st)
Growing in closet with door slightly open and small fan in closet
Soil = Fox Farms Ocean Forest
Lights = 6 CFL Bulbs; 23Watts, 6500K
Water = Tap water that has been sitting out for about 3 days before its used
Nutrients = None yet
Temp = around 85 degrees
Humidity - around 40%

Any help or tips to improve would be much appreciated.

Well, since I got so many responses and not really knowing what else to do, yesterday I tried the 1 tbsp of epsom salt in a gallon of water and watered the plant with that. The plant is still looking ill : (

hey, im a noob, so i could be wrong. but its 1 month into your grow, so you are ready to use nutes. the yellowing could be a nitrogen def.

Wilting looking leaves could possibly be over watering. Transplant into bigger containers with fresh soil.

I agree with both. It is overwatered and nitrogen deficient. You need to start using nutes. (Use 1/4 strength or less for first time!) You also need to let the soil get drier between waterings. Roots need air as well as oxygen. If they are always flooded they will drown. Pick up the pot a couple times a day. You will feel it get lighter as the soil dries out. You want it to feel pretty much empty until you water again. Also, you didn't mention the ph of your water. Make sure you have some way to adjust it to 6.5. Plain white vinegar works if you have no ph down. Do all this and I can assure you that plant will make a speedy recovery.

yeah don't do anything yet, just let the soil dry out completely... let it get a little too dry even, then water with 1/4 or 1/2 strength nutes.

You've got two issues that are the cause of your problems. First of all, your temperature is too high. You've got to get the temp down below 80°F. Higher than that and your plants will start to experience heat stress and growth will slow to a crawl. The second problem is that you are overwatering them. To properly water your plants, you must thoroughly saturate the soil to the point where water starts to flow out of the bottom drainage holes. Then, leave them alone until the soil is almost completely dry before watering them again. Given your temp, humidity, and container size, I estimate that you need to wait about 4 days in between waterings. When it's time to water again, repeat the saturation process I described, then again wait until the soil completely dries out before watering again.

You should not have given the plant epsom salt. It is not showing any signs of magnesium deficiency, so I'm not sure where you got the idea that treating it with epsom salt was a good idea. There's not much you can do about it now aside from flushing with plain water and continuing the watering routine I described. In the future if you have a problem, don't just start treating it with random nutrients because you don't know what to do. That is a sure-fire way to destroy your plants. Simply post your problem here and wait for a knowledgable response. I realize that you did that, but you got impatient when you didn't receive a response in what you considered to be a quick enough time. You have to realize that sometimes it can take more than 24 hours to get a solution. Usually it's quicker, but in all honesty, everyone in this community has a life outside of growing marijuana and sometimes we're off living that life and can't respond within hours of a help request. Patience is the key.

Do I really need to transplant into a bigger pot? The reason I ask is because the one its in is somewhat large. I'm not sure of its size, but after measuring it, its 11" tall and the top is 12" in diameter.

I picked up some Fox Farms Big Bloom and some pH Up/Down with test indicator today. Neither has been used yet though. But I'm guessing the next time I water it should be with the nutrients at 1/4 strength.

I read somewhere to try the epsom salt if the leaves were yellow and showing green looking veins. Thats why I tried that.

I got the temp down to 77, its been staying around 77 - 78 degrees, but I haven't been able to get it any lower yet.

I think that pot is fine. Definitely give it the 1/4 strength nutes next time you water (It needs nitrogen BADLY). Epsom salt is for yellowing at the top of your plant where the new growth is. When older leaves at the bottom are fading to yellow it is nitrogen deficiency and you need more nutes. Giving it the epsom salt didn't hurt it at all. Don't worry about it.

Screw it. Don't even wait for the pot to dry out. Overwater it one more time but give it those nutes. After looking at the pic again it needs them bad. Get it those nutes as soon as you can but then let the soil dry out good before you water again.
