Yes, technically true. Most everyone back during colonial times recognized the many uses of Hemp.

But.... .... industrial hemp was their passion and for good reason. Hemp is one heck of a plant, but with low, very low thc %. No one smoked it .... but, I can't see why they wouldn't have smoked the good stuff if it was available. After all, they were some smart dudes, and altogether ultra kewl.
