Default My new vent sys -- wow

I know it's been a relatively mild winter around here, but holy crap. I filled my oil tank on Jan 17th and I just checked it. Just under 3/4 of a tank left. That's over two months. And, although my thermostat is set at 66, it was 74 degrees in the house at 6 am. That's with the lights off since 8 pm last night. I can only attribute this to the fact that all 6400 watts of lighting is now being air cooled with the output being vented into a back room of the house. I live in a stone house, so it holds the heat pretty good. I had hoped to save some money on running the Monitor heater in that back room, but never imagined it could make this much difference.

Wow !! That is great Tet !! Someone else mentioned (on a different site) that they too were running a similar system (Vermont) and that the savings were more than expected. We are for sure having an awesome late winter/spring with the temps being what they are, and this will def save some coinage on the oil, no matter what system we are using, but I am so glad that your results are well above your initial expectations. Great job my friend

Yeah, my two rooms are in the basement, so I think considerable heat radiates through the floor too. I do have elec hot water, so heat is the only thing oil is used for. Still, checking my records I do believe I have used less than 100 gal in the past 12 months. That's freakin incredible for a house this size. I'll have to reroute it outside before long.

Great news on the oil! we all love staying warm for cheap

yeah these crazy temps are going to help on heating cost but throwing cooling rooms into a tail spin.. :/

I am in the midst of working out a new cooling system but I won't be able to put it into play for another 2-3 months (the heart of heat) i was hoping to get another cycle out of my make shift heat transfer/swamp cooler..

I too was hoping to get one more crop harvested before the actual heat in July and August. I was not planning on purchasing an air conditioner in March to keep the room stable during this lull in old man wintah. Oh well, they must be on sale somewhere
