Default California to legalize??????
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - California tax officials say a state proposal to tax and regulate marijuana like alcohol would generate nearly $1.4 billion in revenue.

A State Board of Equalization report released Wednesday estimates marijuana retail sales would bring $990 million from a $50-per-ounce fee and $392 million in sales taxes. The bill introduced by San Francisco Democratic Assemblyman Tom Ammiano in February would allow adults to legally possess, grow and sell marijuana.

Ammiano has promoted the bill as a way to help bridge the state's $26.3 billion budget shortfall.
As the bill is written, the state could not begin collecting taxes under the bill until the federal government legalizes marijuana. A spokesman says Ammiano plans to amend the bill to remove that provision.

Read the bill carefully. It bans people from growing any more than one 5x5 trey. It is not worded in the same way California medical marijuana bills are which give counties the right to allow larger grows.

Any thing larger than a 5x5 growing area will require a commercial permit. Want to guess how much those will cost?

This bill was written by the pharmaceutical lobby IMO. It's going to take marijuana farming away from Californians and give it to corporations. I'll be voting no. I like the system we have now.

i say go ahead let the pill factories pay for the bill they are naieve to think that once they legalize that they can regulate and monitor a million plus grows. It would be like trying to stop piracy furthermore it would be no different than trying to regulate tomatoes or any other plant. there is no way for the authorities to have the resources or money to bust everyone. It takes a million people two watch a million people right?

The laws the way they are now support boatloads of small time growers, take that away and look for a second economic collapse.

Any new laws should heavily favor small house sized growers over corporations. Fuck pharma and tobacco companies the last thing we need is for them to take this industry over.

yea but you need to read the bill because it is exempt from medical operations the tax the grow limits all of this bill is for people without medical issues. this bill should create a system where the medical side will be cheaper than the recreational side where its heavily taxed and regulated. And the commercial permit I think its 10,000 a year. wow that's allot of money NOT!! that's what 2 or 3 pounds depending where you sale it. Just read the bill the medical system that's already in place is not effected by it. As far as you saying that its going to take it away from farmers and corporations will grow it???????? Umm no! I think that if it does pass and become law it will be more of a wine country type of thing with the emerald triangle being the hot spot. With little private farms that allow you to taste the buds before you by. yes there will be a mass produced side of it but, true pot connoisseurs would go the more prestige route like a pot country tour. you don't like this bill because your a drug dealer and it would kill your profits sorry bro you got to think of your common man and not your greedy pocket.

i think its a step towards legalizing it nationwide. cali is always the first to try something then is followed by other states. once they legalize it for recreational use and other states realizes the revenue being produced they will follow suit; forcing the federal government to legalize it to collect on state funds. well we got about another 30 yrs before its legal everywhere keep pushing guys
