Default Canada - Bill C-15... Contact your MP
Hey everyone, if you live in Canada you should definitely check out this new bill that was introduced by the Conservative Government. It is currently being debated in committee. Basically it is putting mandatory minimum sentences of possession and growing.....ie one plant = mandatory 6 months

I have already contacted my MP, you should dot he same, so that Parliment knows how all Canadians feel.

Here is a video showing some debate on the Bill. The Justice Minister is not willing to say there is no evidence, what a prick. This better not pass, Canada would be going backwards while the U.S. is currently repealing their harsh laws.

Thats interesting.. Im In Canada and this is very troubling... he says this is directed at the people in the business of 200 plants.. but in a mandatory minimum.. even the guy with 1 plant no longer has the right to representation.. and everything will be concidered... cultivation for the purpose of traffiking... give me a fucking break!

jeez.. right off i do not like this guy.. 'Justice Minister'.. that makes him like our Attorney General.. he seems a bit mad with power...

it sounds like they want to use 'trafficking' as a blanket term so they can kick toddlers...

does he ever give any evidence as the woman requested? he says this is what the govt 'believes' and she should ask her constituency.. that guy's a dick eh?

ya - this has to be stopped!! he says the bill has 'full support' of the government.. i have thought of relocating to Canada someday - but this is pretty much a deal breaker if it happens..

Here is the e-mail I sent to my MP:

I was extremely disappointed to see a reintroduction of a bill tabled in November 2007. Bill C-15 seeks to impose mandatory minimum sentences for drug offenses. These amendments seem to have been based off the draconian laws that were developed in America's failed War on Drugs. America's misguided laws have brought Mexico to it's knees with drug funded criminal organizations on the verge of destroying the country.

It has been proven time and again that deterrence is not a successful method to solve criminal issues. Drugs are a public health issue, and should be addressed as such. I firmly believe that Canada should be moving the opposite direction then the one shown by Justice Minister Rob Nicholson.

I hope to see strict opposition to this bill during its second reading.

Regards,

And here is my MP's response:

Thank you for taking the time to e-mail me with your thoughts on Bill C-15 (An Act to amend the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts). This Bill would introduce mandatory minimum sentences for certain serious drug offences.

This Bill is part of the Conservative government’s so-called “Tough on Crime” legislation. Despite overwhelming evidence that mandatory minimum sentences have no effect on drug use, they have introduced Bill C-15. If passed, it would apply mandatory minimum sentences to serious drug offences, such as trafficking and production.

The Liberal Party would like to examine this Bill at Justice Committee, where it will go if passed at second reading. The Conservatives will have to provide concrete evidence that they believe these proposals will work to make Canada a safer place, and show that they are not pursuing this crime agenda simply to score political points.

Thank you again for taking the time to e-mail me.

shits fucked, politicians dont give too much about a country, if you give them money they will find a way to pass a law.

But if this law passes im sure his family will be kidnapped or some shit cause there is no way everyone is gonna just sit on there ass when fucked up shit like this passes. if you watch the 16 part video on youtube it says if you are caught anywhere near a school or where kids go you get a mandatory minimum which has nothing to do with trafficing or production and that is the whole city, where do kids no go?

SON OF A BITCH, the god damned thing was passed. Fucking idiots. My MLA just lost my vote after supporting this shit.

Now we can only pray that the Senate is not as retarded as the conservatives and liberals and actually look at the evidence being presented to them at the readings.

fuuuuuuuuuuuuck, not a proud day to be Canadian, moving backwards.

It passed the house but still needs to pass through the senate. Here is the parliament's page where you track the progress.
