It will surely be an issue in the 2010 elections. There is a host of things that will prevent those in office now from being reelected and I think that the legalization bill will be used by them to keep their jobs. Not by itself, but it will become a campaign issue next year, and again for Obama in 2012 (if we are still capitalistic by then).
