Default leveraging the power of the tobacco companies for legalization
I realize that many on this forum oppose legalization because it will hurt the profit margins they enjoy. I speak to those of us that see the benefits of legalization.

The thought occured to me this morning to lobby tobacco companies in an effort to get them to support legalization and persuade them to use their vast amounts of cash to get advertisements into the mainstream media.

I imagine many cringe at the thought. My first thought was all the chemicals they would probably add.... I think the eventual marketing of organic herb would keep people away from buying that though.

The point is to use their greed to our advantage to sway public opinion toward legalization.

Crazy and stupid? I am sure some will think so. I myself will pursue the effort with zeal.

Toke one for me cause I have none.

Major Problem here. There are 3 major industries that will do anything to keep mj illegal. Those 3 are, in order of resistance to mj: Pharmacuetical industry, alcohol, and tobacco.
The pharmy co's dont want people to be able to treat their symptoms with something they can grow in the backyard. They need you to need their meds. They completely own our government. Every representitive we in the U.S house and senate receive money from these companies. They vote for whoever lines their pockets.
Alcohol and tobacco companies dont want anymore competition. I live in a state that makes ALL the bourbon Made in the world, and has many tobacco companies based here...they will fight it , and spend HUGE $$$ to fight MJ..
sorry to burst your bubble, but you are gonna have to find another industry with money to help you.

Most anti-drug ADs you see are sponsored by big tobacco. Funny.

Oh well. I am just fed up with not seeing some kind of PR campaign going on. I see all these ads that norml and other activist groups make, but i never see any of the ads in the regular media.

Who would sponsor them? No body sells it except criminals(for MOST of us).

Tobacco doesn't want competition from marijuana. Though I've seen it go both ways. People smoking less tobacco while high(or even 'trading' tobacco for weed), and some people who smoke tobacco 'to get higher'. They also usually drink, do whatever other drugs and have little self-control.

So yea, as tobacco or alcohol, I'd certainly want to invest, but the public stigma is too much at this time. They wouldn't want to risk 'pulling a Kellogg's'.

Hello all, just a humble, hypothetical subsistence farmer here. So no profit margins and all in favor of LEGALIZATION.

Ken. I think you have a better shot by writing to State Legislators. Get all your friends to write and all their friends and so on and so on....

With the move away from MMJ facility raids, more and more states are going to look seriously at MMJ, like N.J is right now. And if Cali goes legal that would set the stage for all the rest. If Cali were to Legalize and then turn around their economy with marijuana tax revenue, Oh baby. States would be lining up to do it.

The stars are really starting to align. Take action now and email your Assemblyman or your Congressman and Senators, if you're lucky enough to already have MMJ. Tell your friends.

Thanks for the reply.

I have been sending a lot of emails lately - governor, congressman..senators...

I read this morning that the Obama administration has now called for the DEA raids to end. This is definitely going to be the historical tipping point !!!

My thought was that the tobacco companies would want to get in on the market boom that would likely occur. Get a slice of the pie....

Most business practices are based on after the fact analytics. 'Hope and anticipation' on their end doesn't equate to profit.
