i've been accessing the forum through a university's network for some time now. this morning i tried to get on the forum on my laptop and it won't work! the website times out before displaying anything. my friend in the room could get on from his laptop and i can get on from this general use pc logged on as myself. is it legal for them to do this? don't i have some right to the information on this forum? how do i address this problem without telling the IT department i want to unblock a marijuana growing website??

I do not think they have blocked you, but I do believe they have the right to do whatever they want with their intarwebs.

he hit the nail directly on the head. they have the right to do whatever they want with their network, however if your able to access it from another computer on the same network, I highly doubt that's your issue.

can they submit my usage information / things i have posted to the local police? say hypothetically if i had a grow journal and they just decided to snipe some pictures and send them to the police would that be probable cause for a search and seizure?

I'm not sure they monitor it that closely... I think they got bigger things to worry about. i Don't know what university you go to, but when I lived in dorms at my school, they should have been knocking my door in pretty quick, I was fucking stupid back then, and they never did. Although they did have a lil talk with my partner in crime, and said they knew all about me but didn't have any evidence.... so maybe they can't really see exactly what your doing, just the sites you go to? I don't know very much about computer software.
