Default FLIR Helicopter Identification Specs for Chicago / Cook County Suburbs, Illinois

I have useful information to share aiding in identifying law enforcement choppers in Cook County, Illinois (Chicago). Recently had a snitch to deal with and luckily everything is okay, I caught it in time. Unfortunately, under heavy surveillance. I've had so many chopper visits and now think of them as my "buddies" checking up on me. Just today I had a visit at my friends house so clearly I'm still being watched or perhaps they are just being that aggressive. Let me introduce you...

    Chopper 1 N911YY - Bell 206 L-4 Purchased 1993 Chicago Police Department

Chopper 2 N682FD - Bell 412 EP Purchased 2001 Cook County / Chicago Fire Department

Here is what it looks like to be on the receiving end of a daytime Video Surveillance / FLIR scan.

    Chopper 3 N911UU - Bell 206B Purchased 2006 Chicago Police Department

This is a picture of N911UU and N911YY Respectively

Chopper 4 N681FD Bell 412 EP Purchased 2007 Cook County / Chicago Fire Department

Bell 412 EP Specs: pdf file: EN_412_HeliportSpecs.pdf

Here's an older picture without the surveillance package.

The easiest way of identifying the Bell 412 at night is noting the position of the navigation lights near the skids. (red/green lights)

    Surveillance Equipment Information

Chicago Police Department Helicopter Features Sheet:
pdf file: CPD HELICOPTER Feature Sheet.pdf

    FLIR 8500 Thermal Imaging Equipment

FLIR 8500 Product Brochure: pdf file: ultra8500_ltr.pdf

Exploranium Radiation Detector. (Supposedly only for detection of radiation from "dirty" bombs)

Exploranium GR-460 Brochure: pdf file: Exploranium gr-460.pdf

Exploranium GR 460 Procurement Papers: pdf file: Chicago Procurment Papers SAICExploranium.pdf

Power Line Cable Cutters. (To reduce the risk of getting down and dirty close around electric lines)

This is a mandatory / unique feature of Cook County's helicopters as they added these after an accident. The story is as follow:
On 10 Aug 1971, Officer Hayden was on duty aboard the W.G.N traffic helicopter in his assignment of reporting traffic condition in the Chicago area when his helicopter when out of control and crashed into high tension wires, fatally injuring Officer Hayden and his Pilot David Demarest.

Other notable features include Night Vision Equipment that work with night vision goggles. There is a real time data uplink to the ground so everyone on the ground instantly knows whats going on. One thing I'm happy to add is that the FLIRs they use are not top of the line. The next step up is HD-FLIR.

    Explanation of HD-FLIR:
    pdf file: hd-infrared.pdf

The last peice of info I found is the location from which they operate, here's the link:
    http://www.city-data.com/airports/Ch...-Illinois.html

I will post more information as it becomes available. If I help one person make an informed decision on securing their grow op by correctly identifying a surveillance chopper here in Cook County, I will have done my job.

Those surveillance choppers in the UK must have a lot of power. That's like 6 rotor blades I think. When they fly low it must rattle the shingles off the roof. When it flew higher it was still loud in the video.
