I've been there many times, loophole. I have always had a great time. They don't really care about attracting western tourists so much. They would rather cater to the rich people of the middle east.
Do not take anything into the country. If you take prescription or otc drugs be sure that it is in original bottle.
Do not make any public displays of affection. People have been arrested for a kiss in a taxi.
Do not attract unnecessary attention to yourself. Be discreet, respectful and polite at all times.
If you are American, do not wear clothes that make you readily identifiable. Try not to look like one.


Having said all that, I still enjoy Dubai, It has some of the most luxurious hotels in the world and beautiful hookers too. Their airport is incredible...
