I would guess that if it is legalized, regulated and taxed, somehow it will in turn be illegal to cultivate it yourself as the government cannot regulate your crops

i'm sorry that's complete bullshit, if you hold to that then don't buy anything (taxes from shit) don't pay property tax, because that goes to defense rather you like it or not. and don't buy gas because that money fund's terrorists.

so your statement holds no weight. plus people are gonna locally grow it. it won't be like tobacco where only certain companies can grow it

ASA needs your help to stop Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich from pushing an ordinance through the City Council that could effectively ban medical cannabis collectives in the city. On Monday, October 16, the Planning and Land Use Management (PLUM) Committee and Public Safety Committee will consider this badly flawed draft ordinance. Can you take a moment to call the committee members before that meeting and tell them to reject the City Attorney’s ordinance?
A simple phone call can make a big difference! Just call the committee members and say, “I am a medical cannabis supporter calling to ask the Councilmember to reject the draft medical cannabis ordinance prepared by City Attorney Carmen Trutanich.”

Join us on Monday, November 16, to ask committee members in person to reject the ordinance, and adopt one that protects patients’ privacy and ensures that collectives can stay open. This is an important point in the process, because the draft ordinance may go to the full City Council for approval after this committee hearing.
What: Joint PLUM and Public Safety Committee meeting
When: 9:30 AM * Monday, November 16
Where: Room 350, City Hall, 200 N. Spring Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012
Public Transit Info: http://www.mta.net/riding_metro/default.htm
Arrive early to complete a public speaker’s card if you want to talk with the joint committee on Monday. You may have as little as one minute to speak. Keep your comments brief and on topic!
You can download a copy of the City Attorney’s draft ordinance:

You can see ASA’s suggested changes at:

nah.....I don't own a dispensary. My interests lie with me. I grow my own green and so should everyone else. Those filthy dispensary running bastards are all criminals.

None of the risk of a street dealer, but still the same prices? I'm tired of it, bud shouldn't cost $50-$60 /8th. When the "Pioneers" of this movement stop lining their own pockets I'll get in on their cause, but until then, fight your own fights.

Right, that's in all the bills they try to put through. Sales tax only, no taxing people on what they grow for themselves. I've been reading up on the issues and sometimes it seems like people are speaking against taxation just to cause argument and divide the cause. Not always, but does it feel to you like there's a slight undercurrent of subversion? Maybe I'm just paranoid at the moment, lol.

I am on the fence...I believe that if cannibus is completely legalized than I agree with it's taxation but if its only available medically (as it is now), then there should be no tax because your talking about peoples well being, the ability for them to pursue life, liberty and happiness. For some the ability to keep food down, for others it keeps the muscles spasm at bay.

If the city, county, or state wants to reap the benefit of tax dollars, then legalize and tax. Its the best way to go about it as it saves money on law enforcement, in the prison system and brings in money through taxing, licensing for cannabis related business, etc. I am all for cannabis being treated as an intoxicant like alcohol, age limits for ingestion, taxation, etc provided IT IS LEGAL LIKE ALCOHOL, but if your gonna say medical only then have some compassion for people and don't gouge them for something they require to live happily.

Oh, and the reason medicine prices are completely outrageous because the dispensaries are basically forced to sell it at prices that guarantee that no one can resell it for a profit.

i can already legally obtain and own cannabis. I know a lot of people who would be out of a job if cannabis becomes legal. Also the last thinh i want is the government stepping in and trying to regulate my cannabis.

I have seen the markups on things and it's not like pot. You can't possibly think it's not criminal what they are doing? Is it much harder to grow than tobacco? My cigarettes (although WAYYYY to heavily taxed) are much, much cheaper than pot is. They have more lawyers than anything you can imagine. They have more property than you can imagine. I grow pot, I know it costs, I know what the rent in a tiny little shithole in the bad parts of town cost too.

These guys are all clearing 700,000+ dollars a year running these dispensaries. It's not the way the system was designed and the medicine should be cheaper. You don't think it's criminal to supply patients with medicaiton at a cost of $50-$60 per DAY? I smoke about an 8th a day and I'm not willing to pay that price.

I'm not going to support the thugs that run the dispensaries and if you do that's your prerogative. Providing MEDICATION legally at blackmarket prices IS asinine.
