Default Where is the line drawn?
I was just talking to this kid about weed and laws and such. And he said he got arrested for dealing and the cops came to his house with a list of phone calls and text messages as evidence and reason to bag him.

I mean they might have had a warrant and all that but generally isn't it illegal to look into all those things email too and such without a warrant?

I found this story very interesting.

the line should be drawn at no one getting arrested for weed related crimes, sadly we do not live in such a place

sounds like either someone ratted or the person at the other end of those calls got into some trouble and there were incriminating texts from this kid. The police got a whole bunch of new powers concerning wire taps after 9/11. Best bet is to not say anything on the phone or get a pre payed phone and change up every so often even if you are talking in code and don't buy it with a credit card or something. Pay cash.

if you have a virginmobile pre=paid phone..u can actully go to the website and view any and all of your text mess/phone calls.....
as long as you have the pin number..anyone can do it...and i dont think they need a warrent for anything but to come in your house...if they have reasons tothink u are selling,etc...that gives them probal cause to look for things...
i mean...cops have to have evidence in order to get a warrent in the first place...word of mouth only goes so far...without proof...

i worked for cingular/ATT for 4 years and the technology has changed yes but there is NO WAY anyone can read you text messages! everyone believes that u can. i used to have guys girls coming in bribing me to look up their siginificant others account adn read them the text mssages being sent and its impossible. well kind of. the thing is for us text crazy peeps like myself that send well over 15,000 messages a month. yes not over exagerrating i am crazy lol. but for reals theres no way to store that much info for no real reason by a cellular company. even those txt doesnt take up much MBs its not stored or available to read on demand. BUT there is a special old program we had that if u had access from a manager u could theoritically hack in and read current messages being sent but not received. the only way feds or the cops could use texting against u is if ur dumbass texts incriminating messages to unknown or untrusted sources. or for exaple; if i got rolled for possesion and getting booked, the cops have my phone in possesion then a txt goes off and pops up sayingl "hey bro i got purple kush on deck" thats probably cause and they will track that number and investigate that texter.

cell phones can not be tapped. (YET)

phones with SIM cards IE; ATT and TMOBILE cannot be cloned (verizon and sprint nextel can)
which means they can clone ur phone and get the same messages u receive.

email is not a world im that tech familiar with but i hope this info helps.
my advise period;

DONT TEXT MESSAGE OR WRITE ANYTHING INCRIMINATING.

always in person or at least on a cell call so u know who ure really talking to.
as a medicinal patient i dont stress so much cuz i grow my own and deal with the co-ops but my other buddys have me paranoid still to this days with their stories of bored pigs that wont go catch murder suspects and protect the innocent.

peace spread the word

I wonder if cops ever wonder why people ( mainly the youth ) fucking hate them. Maybe i've seen too many police brutality videos on youtube. Or maybe there's too many of them.

If it wasn't for cops there wouldn't be any excitement. I don't hate most cops just the guys that wanted to be cops because they have a power issue. The cops that are good people are just doing there job and I'm doing mine. I just need to do my job better than them and everyone is happy and free. So don't let anyone's commitment to excellence exceed your and you won't find your self in a heavy set of bracelets and a new jumpsuit.

email is not a world im that tech familiar

My older brother used to work for NSA, they have equipment that can listen in on any cell convo in the world. But, they are not allowed to listen in on domestic, only international calls. So its definitely possible to listen to cell phone calls. If you really wanted to get paranoid, they could even shine a laser beam on your window and hear every word you say inside your home without even going inside. This is because the windows vibrate a tiny bit from sound. They can do this from off your property.

I agree though, don't say anything incriminating in any way that can be stored. E mail is pretty safe - the simple volume of e mails going over the internet make it next to impossible to intercept. However, that being said, if they wanted to read your e mail I doubt it would take them long. But, the random interception of an email by a DEA officer is really impossible. Remember though, on the internet you are NOT anonymous. Everywhere you go, you leave your IP address. If you are on a public network like a university, you are safe. But, if you are at a home network, it is technically possible (and would only take a few hours work) to track a poster to an actual home address. Legally though, I doubt they could do anything with that as really anyone could be using your computer or internet. Theyd have to prove that YOU typed what was sent from your IP address, and thats difficult so they don't pursue those methods.
