Oh man, so I grew some weed then shut it down. The grow box and 17 clones were left and the cops came to my place. I got charged with Possession of cannabis (a pretty minor charge here in canada i believe) and production of cannabis which is more serious but they didn't hit me with production for trafficking thank god.

Anyone have any advice how to deal with this? The cop told me that i shouldn't bother with a lawyer, that i should talk to the crown and see if i can get off with community service. I'm not sure tho, he said they didnt find any record for me but I was convicted of a non drug related offense over 5 years ago, so thats got me pretty worried!

How did you get busted? For 17 clones? Man that sucks, even for Canada... I thought you guys were legal... Did someone rat you out?

contact lawyer asap. Remember....cops are not there to help you. They are only there to bust you. Any buddying up a cop does is not for you it is to get info. from you to make a case. No matter what they say and they are trained to lie to get info. from you. A lawyer should review all the issues and effects of the case including potential ways to have the case dropped and pleas bargained. Right down everything you said to the police for the lawyer. Could be a big difference in how it effects you.

A lawyer will know the best way to approach the crown for leniency.. The CDSA does outline that prior 'designated substance' offences should be considered during sentencing.. The maximum sentence for the production offence would be 7yrs..
When the time is right, I'd use the excuse that you had no experience, and had no idea if any of the 17 clones would even work when you planted them.. You mentioned a grow box which I assume means your growing area was fairly small..

ALWAYS TALK TO A LAWYER. Even community service will still get you a record with a drug charge which could effect future employment as well as a whole bunch of other things. The lawyer might be able to get you off completely with a clear record or a way to take the penalty and later allow it to be expunged.
