So here's the situation,

My friend lives in the dorms, as do I. Over the past weekend the cops came into one of our neighbors rooms and they got busted. As the cops were making the kids dump out the beer (there was one officer down the hall way and one officerin the room with the rest of the kids who was in there) they set the owner's bong outside the door in the hallway. My friend and another kid who lives on the floor (we'll call him J) took the bong and hid it in J's room. J's roommate (we'll call him F) was in the room that got busted and had no idea it was taken. F said that it was crazy, how could he have taken anything so he let them search his room, which the bong was in. They found the missing bong and now F told the police that he never took it and my friend did. My friend was gone when the police came to talk to him and they left a card to call them. J (who was there in taking the bong and hiding it) is now saying that it was just my friend who took the bong. What should he do?

if u still have the bong get it somewhere else another friends house inqnor the card and if they come around say u have no clue what the fuck they are talking about admit nothing

Rule # 1 is.... DO NOT TALK TO THE POLICE ! search for that video on you tube, it'll help you deal with situations like that should they ever arise again.

F simply needs to tell the truth.

They can dust the fucking bong and determine who is lying. If they refuse, F should insist on it in order to clear his name.

Don't do anything.. Don't call them, they're 'trying' to build another case.. Right now they have nothing on your friend worth proceeding with.. A slip of the tongue on a seemingly unrelated matter could change that..
If the cops do track down your friend, he should ask three questions..
1) Whats this about?
2) Am I under arrest?
3) Then I can leave now?
Reserve any rights he thinks he has.. If they feel he doesn't have that right, they'll ignore and do as they please.. Dorms can have some shady policies that the police will use to their advantage.. Read the details in your contract.. Even if there are grounds to nullify evidence by chalenging the legitimacy of the regulation, it takes some legal force to pull it off..

What exactly is the crime?
Possession of an illegal item/substance? (Bongs are legal where I live, "intended for use" with tobacco)
Or is it for 'stealing' the bong, or tampering with evidence? The story's running circles in my head but as far as I see it, you don't really have anything to worry about. If you don't give the cops an inch, they won't do anything to you, at least in this scenario.
