Arizona Campaign Manager

The marijuana Policy Project, the nation's largest marijuana policy reform organization, is seeking a Campaign Manager for MPP's Arizona ballot initiative campaign to legalize the possession and cultivation of small amounts of marijuana for patients who have a doctor's recommendation.
This position is based in Arizona and runs through November 2010.
The overarching goal of the Campaign Manager is to successfully implement the campaign strategy from the campaign's inception through Election Day and ensure that every possible measure is taken to win the campaign. All aspects of the campaign will be overseen by MPP's Director of State Campaigns, with the Campaign Manager playing a key supporting role to the Director of State Campaigns and the campaign consultants.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a minimum of two years of statewide campaign experience in a senior management position, though five or more years are preferred.
The ideal candidate will be a goal-oriented, fastidious, hands-on manager. The Campaign Manager must be hardworking, get along well with people, and have excellent communication and management skills. Applicants who have ties to the Arizona political community will be given priority, although such ties are not a requirement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Campaign Manager will:
  • Oversee and successfully complete the signature drive to place the initiative on the November 2010 statewide ballot;
  • Oversee all day-to-day campaign operations;
  • Act as first point of contact for the general public and the local activist community;
  • Ensure that the local activist community is happy and engaged;
  • Identify, train, and successfully manage/utilize regional volunteer spokespeople;
  • Oversee the distribution of all written campaign materials, such as campaign literature, Web site updates, etc.;
  • Work closely with the campaign's in-state consultants;
  • Assist in-state, paid consultants with coalition-building efforts as requested, resulting in a substantial number of community leaders and organizations publicly backing the campaign;
  • Have fundraising meetings with potentially major donors;
  • Work closely with MPP's State Campaigns office in Las Vegas to ensure that the campaign complies with all applicable campaign laws and successfully files all campaign finance reports; and
  • Assist the consultants with media operations, as requested.
The Campaign Manager reports to MPP's Director of State Campaigns, who is based in Las Vegas.
The Campaign Manager's salary is $50,000 to $60,000, plus full health insurance and a modest retirement plan.
TO APPLY
To apply, please see MPP's job application guidelines and follow the instructions there. Interviews are being conducted on a rolling basis, so interested candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
ABOUT MPP
With 40 employees, 26,000 dues-paying members and 100,000 e-mail subscribers nationwide, MPP is the largest marijuana policy reform organization in the United States. MPP works to minimize the harm associated with marijuana -- both the consumption of marijuana and the laws that are intended to prohibit its use -- and believes that the greatest harm associated with marijuana is imprisonment.
Thank you for your interest.

Arizona’s Attorney General Talks marijuana Legalization

Posted in Chronicle Blog by Scott Morgan on Tue, 12/30/2008 - 12:08am While prosecutors in Massachusetts still can’t figure out what "decriminalization" even means, Arizona’s top drug enforcer is talking about legalization:
Attorney General Terry Goddard said Tuesday he might be willing to consider legalizing marijuana if a way can be found to control its distribution - and figure out who has been smoking it. Goddard said marijuana sales make up 75 percent of the money that Mexican cartels use for other operations, including smuggling other drugs and fighting the Mexican army and police.
He said that makes fighting drug distribution here important to cut off that cash. He acknowledged those profits could be slashed if possession of marijuana were not a crime in Arizona.[East Valley Tribune]
Not only is all of this completely dead-on, he said it at a frickin’ massive drug bust press conference! Are you kidding me!?
Goddard's comments came following a press conference Tuesday announcing the breakup of a major ring that police said has been responsible for bringing about 400,000 pounds of marijuana into Arizona each year since 2003.
I guess somebody forgot to give Goddard the script. Ya know, the one where you’re supposed to use these big busts to declare epic progress with pillows of schwag piled to the ceiling and crow that you’ve crippled the cartels pretty bad this time.

Sounds great Bro im as good as there. It is about time we all became a little more active on the legal side of marijuana growing. If even half the people growing under the radar In Az were to sign the petition we would be able to rack up alll those signatures no problem! <Thats my sweet happy dance!
