Default Change.org changed again
This may be a repost but change.org 'changed' again.

Looks like they relocated MJ reform stuff into this one place.

http://criminaljustice.change.org/ac...lize_marijuana

I had to repost again and I invite anyone who would like, to use the letter I sent below. They supply a letter by default, that I think needed a rewrite which I include below:

It is understood that while marijuana has been essentially illegal since 1937, the prohibition of this plant has not worked.

Without going into a detailed and verbose diatribe surrounding the events and players involved with bringing about the prohibition of marijuana, suffice to say that that it is simple fact that the prevailing motives were not honorable in that they were not grounded on any legitimate concern for the public whatsoever. Instead, it's clear that in the best case it was fueled by racist attitudes about Mexicans and then later African Americans, and in the worst case by simple greed involving Dupont and Hearst.

Today, over 70 years later, studies abound that consistently prove the medical benefits of marijuana beyond all doubt, as evidenced by the existence of the synthetic drug, Marinol. Additionally, every indicator conceivable points to the same conclusion, which is that the perceived harm involved with typical recreational usage of marijuana is far less than that of (for example) cigarettes and alcohol especially.

Please do your utmost to concentrate at least a modest portion of your valuable and understandably limited time to an open minded investigation yourselves. Our country is not (and was never) in a financial (or moral) position where it would be warranted to spend a significant portion of it's citizens taxes enforcing the prohibition of marijuana. Though I hesitate to even make the point, simply because it should not even be necessary to motivate a change, but for obvious reasons the taxation of marijuana would provide a windfall of tax revenue that is sorely needed.

I personally, along side the documented tens of millions of other American citizens who feel just as strongly about the subject, hereby publicly beseech you:

Find the moral strength and open mindedness to accept what has become too apparent to ignore any longer.
"The prohibition of marijuana is unjust, and the legitimacy and sanctity of the American legal system itself has been diminished merely by it's existence"
