To make it short, I have a medical marijuana prescription in California(expires 6/2009). If I join the military will I be able to have security clearance, the job I want has it as a requirement. I don't have anything on my criminal record, but am wondering because marijuana is illegal under federal law. I know there is a few prior service guy's here and I know there are many smart people who know how to find the answer. Please help me out, thanks!

I am soon to be retiring from the military. If you don't pass the drug test, you won't be re-enlisting. If you do pass the test, the questions they ask prior to enlistment (if you answer honestly) will reveal your history and I doubt you will be enlisted. If you pass the test, lie on the questions, the security clearance back ground check will get you.
In short, I doubt it unless your last use was years ago and it was "experimental" use.

i know i pissed hot as hell when i enlisted for the 82nd airborne.... and not a word was said 3+ yrs served hon discharge

Problem solved, spoke with a friend of mine who is currently a recruiter and he told me as long as I didn't do a livescan, or fingerprinting no one will know. Plus I called the office were I got my prescription and they guarantee a 100% confidentiality.

Ummm, first off let me clue you in on something....recruiters are exactly what they sound like ... recruiters... they will say almost anything to get you to sign that paper. Once you are in, you're in and they are onto the next target.
