Ok my roommates and I are casual marijuana smokers. We pretty much keep it to ourselves and do not seem to be a bother to the other neighbors. Still I want to be VERY prepared in case the police come knocking on my door. My solution is this:

When the police knock and if they ask to come in and "take a look" I will be very respectful and say something such as "Everything seems to be fine here, I'm sorry but I don't think that would be necessary." Since I denied entry the police will need to get a warrent (which will take time). Even if they can enter under "probable cause" (idk if they can in Florida), it will still take time to get the keys from the main office. I can use this time to clean my apartment of ANYTHING marijuana related (flush down the toilet, etc.). Yes I know this makes me appear guilty as sin, but I feel it is atleast better than letting the police in with the stuff in plain view. I do not feel as if I am being rude, just excercising my rights.

Yes I do understand reality is different than the law. If a cop wants in your apartment\car they will. I don't know how many times I've been pulled over for speeding and the officer asked to search my car. Refusing will almost certinly get me the ticket, but nicely concenting to the serach allowed me to get off of the ticket. I have also heard tales of the police holding you as a "material witness" until they obtain the warrent (which they most surely will). There is more than one way to skin a cat so to speak.

With the above being said what is my BEST option, REALISTICLY SPEAKING, if an officer knocks on my door and there is stuff within plain view or a pungent odor of the substance lurking throughout the apartment.

what u do is dont open the door if there is a widow go to it and tell them u dont open the door for cops if they have a warrent they can break the door which they would more or likely do if they have a warrent any way if u open the door wheater or not there anything in sight they could say they smell something and invite themselfs in if no window just say through the door u dont open the door unless they have a warrant

Another piece of advice... Get a good quality webcam, use software like tincam or webcamXP and make sure you enable audio and have it pointed at the most obvious point of entry. Make sure to angle it in a position where you can see faces when entering and leaving. Set the cam to stream content to a remote server. Do not let the kops know you are taking video of the incident (in other words, don't be playing the video stream on your monitor). If the kops know you are filming them, they will tamper with or destroy the evidence. However, if the video is streamed to a remote server, evidence can only be manipulated by the user/administrator of that server. Recorded footage of kops "breaking and entering" your apartment can be your best friend in a court of law with a good attorney!

In my grow room ive got a reptile tank together with the plants so if cops come ill hide the plants quickly and exchange em for the tank, yea it may still look suspicious but they cant do anything if all they find is a reptile cage. Make sure to hide all your nutrients and stuff somewhere else aswell. So maybe just get a 5 dollar fish tank and put in a goldfish and put that there when pigs come.

You don't even have to worry about "probable cause" or "reasonable suspicion." Just don't open the door.

Same deal with parties with underage drinkers (at least in Florida).

It really is that simple. DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR PERIOD.

You are not required to answer the door for any reason. They either have a warrant and break down the door or they go away.

Once you open the door one of them just has to THINK they smell pot and then they can enter without a warrant.
