What powers do federal agents/investigators have when it comes to home or property searches.

If you are on federal property they have a fair bit of latitude with what they can get away with.

When it comes to your home and person-See 4th ammendment rights on Norml website. And learn-verbatum the statements you should make to them in a calm, articulate manner. With a warrant or by waiving your 4th ammendment rights (consenting to search) they can check your ass........and anywhere else they want.

Although a warrant should detail what, where and why they are searching and the pc to support it. If not, or if the search is expanded outside the parameters of the warrant you should again exercise your 4th ammendment right.

i.e If the warrant says home and person then you can deny them access to your vehicle, boat, second home, etc. Most of the time they will have that covered since they will know what you own, where you go and any other homes or apartments you maintain for legitimate or illigitimate purposes.

While we have being worried about Osama, many of your rights have been taken away. Homeland Security as wide latitude to search your home without a warrant and they don't even have to tell you they did it until they feel like it.

Not a good idea. If they come with a warrant, you are fucked anyway. Reading it and telling the cops their warrant is too broad and you won't open up the door? Certainly a bad idea. Then the cops break down the door, tear gas you, tackle your ass, handcuff you, and kick you in the ribs a few times for being an asshole. Now instead of just searching your house, they break and rip up all of your furniture.

If they have a warrant it's game over anyway. Sit down, shut up, and ask for a lawyer. If they ask to search your extra stuff, just say "I do not give you permission to search anything of mine". If the warrant is too broad and illegal, any evidence they get from it is inadmissible in court anyway. Pissing the cops off won't make it any better.
