Default Blackstar 240 VS 250 hid?

The plan is to grow semi-stealthily in part of my closet. My tent is 36x20x63(LxWxH) with sufficient ventilation. The plan was to get a 250 watt mh/HPS, but after several hours of researching LED's, I am stumped. Would the Blackstar 240 provide as good of a yield as a 250 watt hid? I would like to go with the LED because I could see myself upgrading with more LED's and possibly a bigger tent in the future. What would I be able to use the 250 watt HID once I upgraded from that? Any input from my friends at RIU?

I've experienced good quality bud with LED, but just on the smaller side. can't say anything about the HID, i've never used them but atleast you know that you'll get a true 250 out of HID VS 1xx out of a 240
When in doubt, light one up

My record so far from using 2 - Blackstar 240's is 8oz 9 grams from 70 days from seed and my worst yield was like 4.5 oz but that was in arctic winter conditions.

It really depends on how important energy savings and heat are for you. IMO the LED will yield more and be cheaper in the long run but it has a higher cost of entry. I should also add that LED is better if you have height restrictions because you can get closer if needed on the lower wattage panels.

    Hope that helps. =)

Edit: Forgot to mention that use Bubbleponics, so that effects yield in my case.

That's an impressive number to me for a sub 300 watt LED grow BlackMesa. I know I would like to hear more. What strain was it btw?

And to the OP, if you can handle the heat, get the HID, then add smaller LED panels or spots as you go on. This way you get the best of both worlds. BS240s do have their limitations and you'll be wanting more after your first grow or two using it IMHO. Good Luck and Happy Growing!

A Blackstar 240 LED light will only give you 135W of light, so it is not a true comparison in terms of wattage between a 250W HID and a "240W" Blackstar.
"240W" is the max possible wattage if all the diodes were turned up to their full potential (which fries them), but 135W is all that it actually runs through.
I would say either double up on the 240's, or jump up to the Blackstar 500, which uses about 300W.
Keep looking and reading the forum, it's a wealth of information, especially when there are other LED light companies to consider as well.
