Default Lighting for 10x10 area, any advice?

Hey everyone, a friend of mine is thinking about putting up a little something at his new place in California (he just moved) and theoretically he is thinking of working an area of 10x10. I helped him get an idea of the products so far, but we are stuck trying to figure out what side lights and how many to put into the space. Thinking he's going to start at 6 plants and then go up to 25 not long after, at 50 square feet, thats 2 feet per plant at 25 plants. So lets just go with getting everything he would need at once. What wattage would be recommended, and how many would you say is needed? I think trying LED would be nice because it saves on power but the way plants love HPS and HID I could recommend both of those as well.
So final question, What type of light would best fit his idea at the best price??

ummmm SEARCH? theres a nifty feature noone is gonna babysit you thats a simple basic question that has an answer somewhere here within the SEARC....

most... most of us are semi busy with our own grow, and SEARCHED, or learned by trial and error id say 4k might be good... so as said above just check out that SEARCH feature and see if you dont end back up in kansass with TOTO.... LOL

Quality units cost loot. I would mix it up cause that's what I do. Get some hps/led. For a 10*10 exclusive led grow, I would budget at least $1000 per unit and is put up 3 or 4 units in there @ least. prepare to spend.

10x10 area hey, I have twice that 10x20 I use two banks of 6 - 600's, one bank a side. With 3 plants per 2 lights I am getting 35-40zips per 2 lights. When I ran only 1 plant per light I was able to get 1 pounders. The third in the middle now has lessened my quantity per plant but has increased my overall yeild by using the overlap from both lights.

You do not have to have a lot of plants to have a lot of weed. Your sq/footage should tell you how many plants you will need for the set up you are using.

Bigger plants, bigger yeilds, longer veg, Smaller plants, larger plant count, shorter veg. your sq/ft. will dictate in either event.

    Cool

You want about minimum 36 watts per sq ft. For led. With brands. You have to do your own research. Everyone will have something positive and/ or negative about every single panel.

I just orderd a 270 true watt apollo from china. Its cheaper than all the others and the most efficient. 3wx120. Each is driven at 2.3 watts. But I had a few nay sayers about that light and a few that said it was awesome. Prior to that I almost got a pro grow. But same thing. When talking to the owner, he seemed shady. A few people told me to go with california light works. Very expensive. 5 w diodes that are dual chip diodes which don't last as long as single chip. Each chip is driven at 2 w. So apollo is still puts out more light. If I did not go with apollo it would of probably been vipar.

To each their own. Do not take everything I say as the all end. Mine is just one opinion. Do a lot of research. Talk to all the companies. Look for grow journals on perticular lights. Look for reviews on each company. Not just on this site.
With hps. It just depends. More watts more heat, more venting, more fans, more ac, more cost in long run.

I run a 1000 watt hidd and par t5. My t5 does better than my 1000. Im replacing it with 2 of the apollos. Mainly for higher 660 nm peaks and penetration. But I expect my electric bill to drop at least $100 when I swap lights. Less heat, less ac, better quality.

The plants like the 1000 watt hps the least. Especially because of light bleaching which deatroys chlorophyll. Its 2 feet away.

Good luck and happy yard work.

    WOW nice grow at 10x20..
That's kind of cool you posted this because I was thinking doing something very similar. I want to have 2 banks that house two 600w HPS and place these on the far sides of the area. I want to then take the two left over 600w HPS's and have them hanging vertically in the middle of the whole garden considering the space there will be at 1 plant per 2 square feet.

so in my mind two 600w's at both ends and two in the middle (of course retractable as to be able to re position the lights)

So with 25 plants and 50 feet to cover as far as light goes. Would you recommend a setup like I have just described?

I would go w/ two 600w Digital HPS (Bulb & Ballast,) venting w/ 6" Inline Fan. Or
I would get one 1000w Digital HPS on a light track, vented.
As for HPS Bulbs, I would go with a bulb that adds 20-30% Blue Light.

Ballast: Lumatex (Dual, Dimable, +100% "Super Lumes" Runs both HPS & MH)
HPS Bulb: DigiLux, Lumatex, HTG Digital Plus

(I have two 600w Lumatex & a HTG Digital Plus HPS running now, (as a test.) And so far the ($30 cheaper) HTG has bulb is outperforming Lumatex! It is says it has 95,000 Lumes & 30% more Blue Light.

*I run the Lumatex bulb off of a Lumatex Ballast & the HTG Digital off of a HTG Ballast*

    Also...
Is the 10x10 space your flowering room & you have a "Momma" or "Grow" Room too? Or is the 10x10 space all you have to work with?

peace, bubbles & love to your girls,

10x10 space should have 4 1000watts minimum imo or 6 600 watts. i use 1000watts for each 4x4 space but you can defiantly do 5x5 spaces with 1000's especially if theres other lights around them to get light to all the edges
