it is rated at 147w, but really draws about 80w
4 of them would draw 320w, while a 600w HPS really draws more like 650w

if i had 4 plants, would 4 x the above LED (one per plant) be as good as a 600w HPS over 4 plants?
Its almost half the electricity and the buy out price doesnt worry me.

or do i need 600w draw of LEDs to replace a 600w HPS in reality?
    NO
Not but judging from the pictures from this test: 440W' HPS vs. 70W'

    ' Real draw used.

And your link is a picture of a plant rated 147 watt, what !

Please read these two posts if you think white light is best for plants vs. red and blue only.

    I think i would buy 8 red(660nm) 10W and 2 blue(455nm) 10W LED from this instead of a white 80W.

(it's properly more expensive if you buy single 10W drivers vs. a single driver for a 80W LED - but depending on where the led are used a big heatsink is avoided )

White light is wasting at least 1/3 of it's energy on green light, energy that would be better of, if it was used on red or uv instead.

the last link was a mostly red bit blue hydro light not a white light.
im just looking at ways of getting my electricity usage down at all costs.
but that might be the link i need thanks rasser

you say 440wHPS vs 70WLED but the link is to self made led panel. is that the right link?

CREE is currently making 10w LEDs with a single die. There are 100w and 150w high bay fixtures using those LEDs but they are pricey - ~$350 from China and likely twice that made in the US.
    http://www.cree.com/~/media/Files/Cree/LED%20Components%20and%20Modules/XLamp/XLamp%20Reference%20Designs/XLamp_XML_10K_HighBay_ref_des.pdf

If someone hasn't mentioned - those colored 10w chips and the 85w chips are arrays of 1w dies. So an 80w array is not equivalent to 8 10w diodes.

    found an interesting video :

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b53Ha...eature=related

    400w HPS (484w actual draw) : 70.4g yield
    205W LED (176w actual draw) : 59.9g yield

The LED is way better efficiency, but who gets 2.5 ounces off a 400w HPS anyway?
I got excited until i realised it was 0.145gpw compared to 0.34gpw. Both are shit
