Do you find it difficult to be creative on demand? I'm a writer, and my best stuff comes to me from out of nowhere, but if someone asks me to write something about something in particular, I have a hard time finding the words.

Does the same thing happen to you? Do the images just come to you, or are you able to say to yourself, "I'm going to draw [fill in the blank]?"

That's not making sense......

What I mean is, do you sit down with an idea of what you're going to draw, or do the images just pop in your head every once in while, forcing you to sit down and draw it out?

rambler420 - Everything that's in this thread is stuff that popped into my head; as long as you don't count a few images for references for the birds. But generally, I have a harder time drawing what someone tells me to draw. But I will say that it gets easier to do with practice. When I first started taking commissions, I had to stop because it was just too hard to put what someone else wanted onto paper. But for me, it was all about broadening what I was able to draw. Every now and then it'll take me a few tries to get someone's commission looking right, but it's just something you've got to learn to get better at.

Normally my best stuff pops into my head, usually at the most random parts of the day, and then I sketch it down later that day so I don't forget it. Then whenever I get the chance, I refine it. But if someone tells me what to draw, it's a different story. I know the same exact feeling as you

moon47usaco - I use ink. Micron and Copic archival pens

Here's that image that had the broken link:

thats pretty impressive... Do you jump straight in with ink or do you do some layout with pencil 1st... ??

I have always been more comfortable with graphite but have started to learn to use ink in school... It seems like a bit of "leap of faith" every time i put ink to paper... =]

Nice work... =]

For the Foreground and animals, I sketch them with a lot of detail and go over it with a pen or something later. But if your talking about the crazy detail in the background. Well, every now and then I'll sketch a few coins for circles but other than that, it's pen to paper the entire way.

As for the leap of faith, I know exactly what you mean XP I used to be so afraid of making mistakes, but it's amazing how you can hide big problems so easily with ink. But yeah, that "leap of faith" feeling is a little unnerving when your working on a masterpiece but you learn live with it.

If you ever really move over to ink, hit me up if you have any questions 'cause I can tell you what pens are good for what ;P

fukdapoliceJust take a look at my stuff for yourself:

1st image: "Forgive" is hidden in the bubbly thing on the right side
2nd image: "Peace" is hidden in the bottom part of the crescent on the right side.
3rd image: "Martyr" is hidden in the bubbly thing again
5th image: "Palliate" is hidden at the bottom and is written sideways
6th image: "Mom" is hidden in this one in the top right corner. Also there are several other ones that are too small to notice.
7th image: "Justice" is hidden in the bark of the tree.

These are all just the titles of the images, but it's fun none the less to hide them anyway.

Would you mind posting some of your stuff?
