| | Why veg at all? (straight to 12/12) | | Hi, I've been lurking on this site for the past few months now and am about to set up my first grow. Hydroponic, flood and train table. My question is, lately i've been reading Al. B Fuct SOG set up thread amongst others which have talked about putting clones straight into the flowering 12/12 stage out of the clone box once the roots are developed enough. The advantgaes being that the plants don't end up as tall/thus recieving more light (or not having lower branches that don't receive light) and that you harvest quicker. So.... why wouldn't i always chuck the clones straight into flower mode once they're big enough. Sure i won't get as much bud by not vegging, but i will be harvesting more often (or will the smaller yield not be worth the less time?). I am thinking of not doing a SOG set up, but just getting some clones, once they're ready put them in flower mode, but keep 1 or two as mothers and wait until my table is empty for the next lot of clones (a modified, lo-tech sea of green, more like a dripping tap of green ). A big question i know, i treid to cut it down! but any replies are greatly appreciated - i need all the help i can get
Also i wouldn't be buying veg nutes - another pro of no veg |

| | first of all I want to let you know what the advantages are by vegging your plants,.
1. stem growth {very important}
2. leaf production {also very important}
3. height = more buds
now lets look at the disadvantages.
1. possible hermie or male |

1. possible hermie or male | I grow permanent 12/12 from clone and seed and always get 2oz per plant, at least and no probs with herms (as yet!).

| | not sure either, i will be starting my grow jornal soon, and will be trying out SOG with y grow and as u mentioned putting developed clones straight into 12/12.
im starting to realize that its all based on your mothers. you want a couple mothers to produce a shit load of clones, that way you can be picky and clone only the tallest, and healthyest clones available. that way you start of with a decent +6 inch clone in your fall room and not some week small clone.
this will ensure you having a 2 foot tall plant if not close by the harvest time. |

| | You get 2 oz per plant after putting clones straight into flower!? Sounds good to me Woomeister (i'll be happy with 1/2 oz per plant). So as was just stated, the reason we veg is for 1) stem growth, 2)leaves, and 3)height. What if, as was suggested by al b fuct in his SOG thread, you take bigger cuttings with thicker stems from the mother, (making sure she has thick stems of her own (with a fan?)), that would take care of veg reason 1, also because the plants are smaller they don't need as much leaves (don't know if this is correct), and the leaves they do have get better light, thats veg reason 2, and as for reason 3, the height, the fact that you are harvesting more often, and i assume the plants are somewhat 'better' than tall ones as they don't have lower leaves not recieving light, makes up for the smaller yield of shorter plants.
Not sure if all this is correct, please don't think i'm trying to shit on what you are saying, zonked, i'm not. I'm just a new grower and am trying to get my head around it all - and so far can't really see a reason to veg. I know obviously the plants natural cycle is to veg for how ever long then flower, but with indoor space concerns, lights not penetrating to the bottom of plants among other things, i just see no veg as the way to go.
Any other comments would be great

| | I am new grower Reales and u have good point but why not just cut the vegging time say like veg for 2weeks that way they get bigger are stronger and bigger yields but still cutting down the time by a good amount.

I would love to learn how to pull that off. Are you starting with big clones or what And doing this from seed? Amazing!! |

| | yeah thats probably what ill do for my first go. Once i change the clones to flower I want to keep vegging one or two of the clones and use for mothers. That way i can just have them under flourecents, and only need one table for flowering. My thought was this way i don't need two flood and drain tables, however come to think of it, i'll need some sort of hydro to keep the mothers going. Maybe a DWC? any ideas on the best, easiest, smallest way to just keep a mother going? |
