Default Miracle Gro Organic Choice Garden Choice
Miracle Gro Gardening Soil - Link gives specifics as to what its made of etc.

So I just bought this stuff since I had very limited selection locally. The past 2 days I have been driving all over the place, getting my supplies ready for my first grow. Everything is good to go, but I just looked at the back of the bag, and it says "Not for containers"

I'd rather not return it, just because its more driving than I want to do, but if its necessary, i will. Anyone know why you arent supposed to use it for containers?

I am also planning on using perlite and sand that I bought along with the soil. Will using these fix the problem with the soil and containers? Thanks.

i know the fertilizer content discussion of miracle gro has been beaten to death, but does anyone know why this soil isnt suitable for containers? when i was lugging it around, it did feel like a big, soft brick and didnt break up much. could that be why its not suitable? would adding sand+perlite fix it?

I used for this run MG Organic mixed with Pro-Mix and worm castings and it works fine .

Test Run - good results

I think it isn't suitable for pots alone . It is too thick - not enough oxygen will get to roots and it won't drain well . You just need to fix it up .

ok. i think i might just buy plain potting soil to balance it out since MG seems to have a reputation for burning plants with its fertilizer content.
i appreciate the reply. as soon as my seeds/lights arrive, i am good to go on my first grow!

also before you put youngens in it you can try to flush it a bit a couple of times.

I am no expert but I had problems with miracle gro and now wouldnt use any of there products. I know there is success with them but they added one more problem for a new grower like myself. do a search for hempy buckets it is easy and great growth is amazing problems go away quick. I also made my own fertilizer tea witch is working great so far very gentle. good luck.

thanks. i think i might stick w/ miracle gro just because thats all i can get here without going to great lengths or ordering online. ill probably just flush the soil a lot before planting to hopefully get rid of some of the nutrients.

I used that up until the 3rd week of veg. My issue with it is the lack of nutrients. If you look at my grow journal, there was yellowing on my lower leaves after only 2 weeks. The mixture is way too low on nitrogen, but it works!

I always use MG but what i do now makes a big difference from what i was doing and its pretty simple first start with a 1 gallon 2 gallon if you vegging for 2 months. mix the MG with perlite. then when you are going to flower move it to a 3 or 4 galllon pot with fresh soil. add some big bud on the 4,6,7 week of vegging then harvest on the 10 week. almost every grow i have done requires 10 weeks. dont cut yourself short and only do 8 weeks. get a scope and watch the trichs good luck
