Very well written, executed and informative. Thanks. Pictures would be nice, and the name of the manufacturer of the photo sensor.

This is a very good post but i think there should be a little more stated about PAR lighting. I have done some investigation and have concluded that you need about 85 par watts /sq. meter. That is optimum for 1 sq. meter which is approx. 10.75 sq/ft. A 400 w HPS gives off about 128 -130 par watts per sq meter. So to find out how much par wattage for sq. ft u would divide it out (85/10.75=7.91) then multiply that by ur sq ft. (5*7.91= 39.55 so 40 par watts for my grow boxes ) would be optimum par wattage. Since I use 400 w HPS's I would have 3x's the optimum amount of par wattage for my plants and they should grow to be healthy and yield some good bud. ( and they do ) Anyone can do this with your sq. footage and a calculator.

If I have one 1000W hps it gives about 150K lumen.

1 600W gives about 90K lumen.

My question is if 2 600W gives the dubbel amount of lumen, 180K lumen?

I`w read somewhere that 2 lights dosen`t dubbel the lumen.

I think the answer is yes, you'd have 180K lumen. you'd also have better light coverage with 2 lamps.

kivalovski u are right and wrong at the same time. 2 600w would only double the intensity where the light overlaps. In the further out places you would still only get the 90k lmns. Still I say Par minimums is what we should be striving for. Lumens are for humans Par is for plants

By the numbers, each should provide about the same lumen count.

6 x 42W = 6 x 2700 lumens ~ 16200 lumens

1 x 150W HPS ~ 16000 lumens

There will be errors due to my cheapass HPS and the different spectra, age, etc., but we should be able to get the point.

What is especially interesting is that at the corners we should see better coverage from the CFLs, as they're closer, while at the center, the HPS should be better. And of course all of this will change with the distance from the canopy.

Let experimentation begin! (but after dark, 'cause it's hot as shit in this room atm)
(6) * 42W = 252 watts. why not get a 250 watt HPS? same price in electricity. isn't that like 25000 lumens or something?
