| | Clone, Clone; just fricken grow, damnit!! | | for the life of me i can not figure out how the hell to get clones to work as flawlessly as people have effortlessly been doing......
i am using remo's cloning video from urbangrower as reference (all the way at the bottom of the page) and i even freeze framed and full screen'd that damn thing to mimic exactly what he did step by step...... and out of 6 clones taken 6 days ago only ONE looks to be standing tall still all green.... every other clone is either heavilly bent to one side and/or the leaves are getting very yellow from the tips spreading down toward the petioles.... OR the leaf tips are all black and wilty..
now what i dont understand is that i had been misting the dome like once a day so i know it isnt stale air or too dry... and i am figuring it isnt too wet because like i said, one of them is lookin nice....
for a day now i've stopped misting, it was a very very dilute nute mix (a little less than 100ppm) that i have been feeding the mothers.. (mostly N heavy) i dont have a thermometer inside the dome but when i was lifting it to mist the past few days, i would notice the air inside very warm and moist (along with condensation still on the dome)
this is via rockwool by the way....
i really really REALLY need to get this whole cloning procedure down pat so i can begin flowering - the mothers look superb and i can do nothing until i know if they're male/female.... hence the necessity for clones..... PLEASE HELP ME!!!! |

| | okay i tell you now how i do it, i use as grow medium now grodan rockwool mini cubes 1 1/3" once, i sock them over night in a water hormon mix made from hormon powder, in terms of hormones i use what i can get cheap and easy, used to buy clonex gel but i'm now on "neudofix" powder made in germany as it appears... now after i socked those cubes, did the same with jiffies for outdoor once, i prepare everything else. that are fresh razor blades, ethanol for senfation of the tools and the plant, some cotten for that, and some powder in photo-can. also i cleaned the grow dome out befor starting. after been ready, i make the cutling from top brenches, put them into the powder and then make a 45° degree cut once more before putting them into the cube. i keep those cubes moisted by spraying them wth water as i spray the leaves too. got a "high pressure" pump mister for that job, spraying some really fine frog out only. over the dome i keep 2 21W cfls for light. i mist the plants at leased twice a day, but just for a split-seconde long. works fine for me so may try thise

| | You should make your cuts under water, as this helps to prevent an embolism. An embolism will enter the cut end of your clone and block the transpiration stream in the cutting, causing it to wilt.
Embolism is just a fancy word for a pocket or bubble of air.
If you continue to have simular problems, you should try the "layering" method, which
has been described here before. This technique has a much higher success rate.
Peace

| | ^^ that is way i make a second cut for instance so no gel or powder will block the way
but do you really go thru the hassle of cutting every clone under water video??

PLEASE HELP ME!!!! | It's hard to know where you're going wrong, because you give out very little information about what you're doing. Firstly, stop misting them with nutrients, they're not photosynthesising and don't need any nutrients at the moment - they're creating roots.
Personally I don't like rockwool, nasty harsh stuff, but that's not the reason you're going wrong - other people get good results with it. Here are a few tips that may help you -
1) Make sure the cutting you take is a meristem, a meristem is the 'growing shoot' or tip, that has leaves groing out of it. Trim off all bar the meristem itself and one or two pairs of leaves.
2) After taking the cutting, cut it again at a 45˚ angle about an inch up from the bottom, this helps stop embolisms forming and immediately dip it in some rooting gel.
3) Make sure the rockwool cubes are moist but not soggy, check them everyday and water with plain water and a drop of superthrive per 4 litres of water.
4) Make sure the cuttings are kept in a propagator and mist them once or twice a day with plain water. This has a twofold effect - to raise the humidity in the prop and to help slow down the transpiration of water until the cutting has developed roots. Leave them in prop with the lid on until you see roots forming outside the rockwool cubes.
5) Use low ight levels, small wattage cfls 20w are fine used about 6 inches from the dome top. Do not give it high levels of light - it doesn't need it and it stresses the plant. Make sure your lighting schedule is 18 hours - DO NOT give it 24 hours of light - cuttings need the 6 hours of darkness to help them form their roots.
Key points -
Ensure rockwool cube is moist but not soggy, continue misting once or twice a day to raise humidity levels in the prop, keep the prop dome on until roots show - should be anything between 2-3 weeks, don't give it high levels of light and ensure you stick to a 18/6 lighting regime. |

| | i got a story, | | I bought some clonex from the store and took a clone off the "G" a while back ago, I had it w/ the rest of the trees for like a week and a half, it didnt seem to be doing much so I just said "fuck it" and threw the bitch to the side, in the trash. Then like 3 days later when I was watering, I took the trash out and I looked in there and there is a Fuckin Root!!! Planted that shit, put it under a tube and VOILA!!
Point being, my plant didnt look like it was growing for 3 WEEKS..
P.S. I didnt use rockwool or anything, just some regular Sunshine Mix #4 in a Mountain Dew can, lol (not advice, just wanted to try) |

I have been trying to clone like Snoofer in the FAQ...but when I take dome off after 3 days it all goes to hell everything dries out, then I panic and put it back on....then the plants get soft stems and fall over...
So really leave the dome on until you see root??? |
