im at day 33 of flowering my c4's which are supposed to flower in 45-55 days. my plants are really tall and bushy so there are alot of underdeveloped buds about 12 inches into the canopy. do you guys think it would be wise to trim the lower portions of my plants since theyre not really getting much light??

What about having multiple light sources, like having smaller lights angled towards either the bottom or middle parts of the plant that aren't getting light, would that be more effective in have strong plant growth and bud production than trimming leaves? It seems like it would work in a small grow room of six or so plants

I had a plant STRETCH to high heaven within three days, went from 3 feet tall to 4 feet tall! I had dozens of small buds near the bottom and they were sort of yellow looking. so i said What the Heck, and got the scissors, but instead of trimming the yellowy dwarf branches with very small flowers, I trimmed all my LARGE MAJOR shade leaves that were half way down, and exposed the lower growth to the lights. Yellow went away and the little flowers started looking like buds so I ran to Home Depot and got 4 small 42 watt CFLs and now I got buds down below too. I will harvest my big tops in about 2 weeks, (trichs are still very clear and look like penises with big heads on them) and I will get a 2nd harvest from below.
I have read all the advise here I can read at rollitup, along with Ed
Rosenthal 's book and articles and I am seeing we do not all agree on many ways or procedures....like soil or dirt, Trim or don't trim, go by the hair color (stamins) or get a magnifier and look at the trichs, etc.....but I am writing down and sticking to I will always trim the LARGE LOWER, (I mean just the LARGE) Shade leaves, or Fan leaves and I will always leave everything else alone. Well, except for those
very small, fraglie dying lower yellow stems that will never be anything. I'll take them at 20 days til harvest.

I am on my third grow, Bubbleponics, and I am doing everything different this time, going against all the rules just to experiment. I went from 24/7 to 12/12 in 2 hour a day increments, BIG WASTE OF TIME!!! I 'll always just jump from 24/7 to 12/12 from now on.
I started flowering at about 8 weeks, and had 3 plants in two tanks, one at two feet, one at 3 feet and one at 3 and half feet tall. I 'm going to get a nice BIG harvest too.

i know its 2007 but fuck leaves turn light into food, dont cut leaves off! not shade leaves, big and broad to gather light to photosynthisize into food

i trim the fan leaves for the last week. once they look "done" (clear/white/amber ratio) i cut all the leaves with a stem and cut down 1-3 colas that are ripe to fast dry and smoke while im waiting for the main bush to finish curing. pretty ballzy to do it early flowering, if i ever did that id maybe only cut 5-10 leaves down per day so it doesnt get scared.

its never okay to trim fan leaves unless they have turned yellow or died. all others leave alone. if you need or want more light lower down on the plant either get more lights or use LST to spread her out. don't cut!

I have trimmed bud leaves before and it seems they yielded less than whats currently growing without having touched em. The buds get their energy from those big leaves, not the tiny 1s that surround it.

Hi, I've got a quick question about trimming. I'm a beginner and am growing and AK48. The plant's growing very good but the fan leaves are so large, there is pretty much no light getting to the leaves underneath. The plant is about 3 weeks and has 6 levels of leaves. I wanted to ask whether it is ok to cut the lower fan leaves so that some light could get to the lower parts. I'm only thinking to cut off 2 largest leaves as the are the main ones blocking the light. What do you think ?
