DOG Kush LED Grow Journal

This is my first round growing out the S1 seeds of the DOG from Breeders Boutique.

I will be running about 9 of the 30 or so seeds i have and will be looking for a keeper mother. Doesnt seem hard considering just about every plant ive seen grown from them is a keeper.

My former set up was a 400w cmh in a 2x4x5 veg tent and a 600w hps in a 4x4x6.5 flower tent with a clone box with 14w cfl, humidity dome, and nursery tray.

Im planning to run dyna gro: Grow & Bloom only. Been testin them out lately and im done with all the additives. Still have some left over humic/fulvic and other organic additives from Blue Planet Nutrients that ill use til the end and that will probably go bad before i get to the bottom of the bottle.

Ill be running .8 gallon air pots for veg and then transplanting into 2 gallon generic htg smart pots for flower. Usually veg for a month with some LST or topping combo, then veg for 8-10 weeks. I usually pick around 8-9 because most of the strains i grow are short flowering, indica dom hybrids.

But im willing to go a full 10-11 to get some real goodness out of this DOG.

This time i have 2 of the 305w LED panels from growevolution.com. Ive been wanting to make the switch for a while and finally ponied up and did it. I like the multichip leds and have heard some good things from other growers on here about them.

So i will be using one side of one of the panels for the beginning of veg, then switch to a full panel once the seedlings establish themselves.

And for flower ill be using both of the 305w panels to replace my 600w hps. Also, considering the fans running probably use over 10w id say its a pretty fair match.

Im currently in the process of doing my post harvest cleaning of my grow room/tents. Taking out the A/C for the winter, cleaning up dirt, things like that, so i dont have any grow pictures yet.

I do have pictures of the leds that came in the mail the other day. That was the main hold up on this grow and now its just a matter of putting all the right pieces in place and firing it up.

Here is one 305w panel, i got 2.... :spew:And theyre nasty.
Each chip is 25w so they are rated for 400+ watts but are dimmed to 300 watts to help with heat.

No lenses just a reflector and a thin piece of protective plastic over each reflector.

led1.jpgled2.jpg

One heat sink per light, one fan per heat sink. 8 multi chip leds, 8 heat sinks, 8 fans.
Dimensions are roughly 24"x12"
So when theyre both in my tent ill have a 2'x2' area of even light dispersion instead of the single high intensity source.

led3.jpgled4.jpg

You can power up half of the board or the whole thing like most LED panels.
Had em runnin like this for an hour and they threw less heat than my 150w hps! I knew LEDs were cool but ive always heard once you got into the higher wattages they threw a little heat. The only place you feel heat is 1-3 inches away from the light and its about as hot as a 13w cfl you just turned on for 30 seconds. The open sides and back probably help alot of heat to be exchanged.

Here is a picture of the multichip led. Each light you see is an individual LED chip. Mostly red, then blue, then some UV/IR i think. (those 4 whitish ones)

So thats it for now. Pretty lengthy but there are more to come and they wont be so long.

Even some video journals for those who want to see all the dimensions.

Ill have some germination pictures up in a couple of days as well as a few pictures of the room before and after LED conversion.

For anyone interested in an in-depth LED comparison journal, growing one of the "hightimes strongest strains" of the year, then id pull up a chair. :blsmoke:

Because im trying to make this the last time i have to pop seeds to find that amazing keeper pheno.

I love the DOG and everything about it and am going to grow it til DEATH!!! :fire:

You should call the LED company and say you will document your grow if they send you one more panel for free... then you could have 1 panel above and maybe 2 as side panels

Its THE DOG from breeders boutique. Im not sure what to call it because the guys at BB in the 600w club call it both the dog and dog kush, but its the KILL. hahaha. Love bein able to talk to the breeders directly. I got about a dozen pictures of everyone of the breeders favorite phenos so i know what to look for in that SUPER MOTHER.

Also, ive talked to the owner of GROWEVOLUTION.COM and he said he'll have to see my results from a grow or 2 before he starts shellin out free equipment. But hey, if anyones seen my last grows they know i dont fux around. So hopefully these panels work well and ill be able to be sponsored by them and deck out my whole set up. Switch from a yellow glowing room to a purple one. haha I would love a 3rd panel though but it just wasnt in the bills. Already broke the bank buyin these but i was gonna drop about 5 on a new hps so it wasnt too much of an unexpected expenditure.

Thanks for stoppin by and hope you enjoy the show!

As far as I know Dog Kush and The Dog are one and the same. Some dank shit... one of my favorite strains.

Looking forward to the grow.

Thats what i figured haha. I use the word kush or kuh to mean any type or marijuana. No matter how not kush like the strain is. Its all DA KUH! hahaha. Helps talkin in public too because if some one heard "what kinda da kuh you got" theyd probably think we were talking about japanese motorcycles or were mental hahahaha.

Glad to have ya along JIG. Which was your favorite pheno? Or did you run it from clone?

Well I planted the seeds, but I suck at growing from seed, so I gave them to a friend to keep them as mothers. He gave me cuts, so I guess I grew from clone, from the seeds I planted. :) Because I don't really grow from seed I don't know much about spotting pheno's. They just kinda all look the same to me. Funny how much I know about growing, yet am still absolutely clueless about certain aspects. Still have never taken a clone. Anyways, the one we ended up keeping and running for a couple years was a good pheno, although I don't know how to describe it. It yielded huge, was super frosty, and a great high.

Biggest yielder I've grown. Hardest hitting smoke too.

Good to hear you have The Dog and not Dog or Dog Original (aka Dog x OG kush or also BX1). The Dog looked way more dank than Dog Original on the picture profiles as well as reading the genetics. I'd rather have the Headband x Og Kush version.

Yeah i heard the hermie traits clear out after you clone. Cant argue with some free fem seeds though.

Excited to see how it turns out. I just found the same website and I am interested to see how they work. They are a lot lower priced and I am wanting to get one bad

Hell yeah! One of the cheaper ones but the quality doesnt seem to be sacrificed. These things are solid! im pretty sure theyre steel frames and they are heavy duty. Very bright and very low temp.

I feel like they could take a hard drop. I would never want to test that, but they seem like at worst the frame would absorb the impact and bend a little.

And theyre about the first company ive seen that do not use lenses for the leds. Just a reflector and a clear, probably lexan(optical quality), sheet protecting the LEDs from any water or debris.

If this goes well im gonna replace the 150w hps in my mini cab with whatever they have that is closest to that. I think a 130w.

Might even go as big as i can fit because they throw NO heat.

So i got a third panel!!! Said fuck it and grabbed it. Should be here any day. Now ill be able to use one for veg and two for flower without having to switch from one cab to another. Hell i might still put all 3 lights in the flower tent once veg is complete. Then put my cmh back in veg until the first round of flowering is done and i can afford to grab a few more. This is turning out to be better than i thought.

Gonna be finishing up the cleaning today. Preparing and cleaning all the ducting and carbon filter. Grabbin some dirt then starting to germinate THE DOG!!!

Ill have some more pictures up soon of the tent and everything before and after LED conversion.

Started germinating 9 of the DOGs earlier today. Washin out my air pots and grabbed some dirt as well. Still gotta grab more snow storm ultra. Saw it at the hydro store but stocked up on dirt and didnt have the spare cash to grab it. Wont need it for a month or so anyway.

Gotta grab some more dyna gro too because my tester pack is about half gone and i wont have enough to finish up a whole big grow with it so im gonna grab some more and use the rest of what i have on my mini cab plant. Probably gonna get one of these to replace my 150w in the in the mini cab http://www.growevolution.com/lights/bud-boss-151/

Just not sure if i should get the square one or the rectangle one.

rectangle.jpgsquare.jpg

The rectangle would just fit in there because my box is about 26" inner length that one is 23" long and 6.5" wide.

The square would fit good but be a little cramped around the front and back because my width is only a little over 1' and its 11.5"

Either way itll be good. haha. Love that purple glow.

Stay tuned for more.

If your tent or room is a rectangle 4x2 get the long one. If it's square 3x3get the square one ;-) I would think you would get better coverage depending on shape of your room.

:leaf:rare:leaf: sent using rollitup app.......

Yeah im tryin to use one of those for the mini cab which is 1.5'x2'x3.5' so its pretty square but technically rectangular. it can fit both but one sides gonna be close to the walls on either one i get.

The cab is so small that it wont matter too much. But its a tough choice. Might have to go square. haha
