With watering the plants in pots ( 16 days old ), what is recommended for where to water... at the base of the plant or right around the pot to the edges to cover it all?

Obviously to get the roots the water needed but is there a big difference?

Many people that grow in pots water around the outside edge. When it dries out you can see the edge pull away from the pot. This can cause air gaps and pockets that can damage or kill tender roots. By watering around the edges you help prevent these pockets from forming.
