Default roots grow in soil after 12/12???!

16, 6 week old plants in veg in 4" pots. i want to transplant the females in bigger pots, but not the males. if i change my lights to flower and determin sex in the 4" pots. can i throw out males and transplant females? just that i heard that roots will stop growing as much after flowering is induced. whats the word birds?

since this plant is an annual and not a perrenial, the roots will grow at all stages of development in an effort to find new areas of nutrients and water

thank you, i feel free to start sexing by promoting flowering now, and then once i exclude the males i will transplant females to larger containers.
