Ok.. so I just yesterday finished helping SWIM with his first harvest. It was three plants of some BC in hydro, GH 3 part, under 400 W HPS in limited vertical space. Here's the thing.. earlier on in flowering when the plant was stretching, SWIM noticed that it was growing too close to the light, and having no versatility in the space he was using, he decided to just cut the main stem off several inches from the light.

He wasn't sure about this strategy but didn't see a lot of choice. The branches of this plant were bent to each side and kinda mixed in with the buds of the neighboring plants. So yesterday swim cut them down... THE BUDS ON THE CUT PLANT WERE MASSIVE and the overall yield of the plant appeared to be three times the yield of either of the others. All three of the plants recieved approximately the same amount of light, but this one plant that was mutilated by scissors has produced an inexplicably large yield.

What's up with that?

by cutting the main stalk off he made the smaller branches strive to become the top, thus becoming tops themselves in a way. More tops = more yield. I did this to one of mine too and its works out great.

At what time should this be done?

If you are intentionally topping make sure you give them 2 weeks veg time afterwards. Bare minimum a week. I had one that I knocked the top off in early flower. It still split in two but they did not grow much..LOL (this was a booboo obviously). I would say don't top until the plant has between 4 and 6 nodes. 8 nodes is a mature plant.

Umm I just lopped the top off in early to mid flower. I didn't do it in any specific place, and when it tried to keep growing I would lop it off again. I didn't get two tops in it's place, I suppose the branches tried to be the new tops.

Apparently, this is a very forgiving strategy for increasing yield.

dudes could you do this and lollypop the plant? if that worked it should increase the yield a lot!!
