So me and my friend are going to start a small grow for the first time. We are going to start off small for safety and experience reasons so here it is...

we have about 4' under the house where the furnace and water heater are. We believe that if we use 9 CFL's (26 watt ea.) We could grow two plants successfully. We are not looking for a massive yield but at least a couple ounces or so. we will hang three power strips from the top, one on the right of one plant, one in the middle and one on the left of the other plant. We will use three bulb adapters per strip and put three CFL's in each. This will hopefully be enough to grow them, if we start having problems then we will step up the wattage and add more bulbs. Im asking if this is an okay setup or if it is doomed to fail...

P.S: CFL's have equivalent wattages to condesent bulbs, so my math is... (26 watt CFL eq. to 100 watt Con. 100x80 lpw=8000 lumens per square foot so... 8000 lumens x 9 bulbs= 72,000 lumens per square foot? please tell me if im wrong

A 26W CFL is about 1700 lumens. You need a 150W for 8000. See 150 to 200 Watt Compact Fluorscent for an example.

grrr, my budget doesn't have those in mind lol, but i did come across an industrial sized flouecent, im starting to think that i sohuld just get some tubes instead, are those a bit cheaper and more efficient or no? i love this site to death but i have always had some problems with lighting. im planning on planting four plants (just so im sure i get a few females) and possibly end up with two or three in the end. what would you recommend for lighting of these plants (no i cannot get my hands on ANY kind of MH or HPS) so im stuck with flourecents.

*update* the industrial sized flouro is a 60 watt and has an industrial plug thingy, so i can screw it into any old socket

i hate lights, plant should evolve to grow in the dark...

also, plants need at least 72000-80000 lumens correct?

its gonna be a pain in the ass going back and forth checking on them and what not. imho i dont think under a house would be a good idea due to heat (fire) and staleness/mold

under the house is actually extrodinarily clean, there are a bit of spiders but in the animal kingdom, they are my friend so cool for them, i checked the temp and its stays at a steady 75-80 degrees the setup hasent been setup becasue i want to make sure i get the okay from all you proz out there lol, but if you want ill throw some picks up and start a grow journal soon. plus going back and forth wont be a problem because of the way you cna enter, its in a closet that filled with stuff but we made it so we can easily move a few things around and slip in and out without much of a mess. i also hope to put timers down there so i only have to go down to water and see if they are doing okay in the climate down there if not we have another spot but dont want to use that unless we have to (room, getting caught, ect...)
