Default 24 inch flourescent lights... 17W of power=75 W of incandescent light???
what exactly does this mean? they have a "grow light" version? will, say, 5 of these things be enough light to vegetate? flower?

i appreciate the response. this is my first grow so im pretty much going for the cheapest route possible, right now they all seem to be doing pretty well ;their "stems" or roots seem a bit weak, but they are only 4 days old or so. how many plants will i be able to flower with 5 of these lights? just one? also, another newbie question: is it bad that the roots have grown outside the draining holes of the pots? they just kind of soak in any excess water.

yep thats bad. That will cause root rot if you don't change it quick. Drain any excess water from the tray. Four days old and the roots are growing out the bottom of the pot? If thats accurate you need to put them in bigger pots asap. You will damage some of the roots that are hanging out the bottom of the pot so don't be suprised if they droop a little after the transplant. Some pictures might help.

In my opinion you could add a 20 dollar 150 watt hps and it would bang your head off at the end... or if you want add some cfl's the 26 or 40 watt would help... def. transplant them ho's sooner than later.. and you dont want standing water on any roots. I aggree thats bad bad bad news!!!
