Default Anyone using generators?

I want to build a large growing setup without having my bill randomly peak high. I pretty much have the hydroponic system & lights down, but power is something i havnt touched. What are recommended generators and how many lights can be used with it? also what type of generators are there, does it cause alot of heat or nasty fumes? thanks in advance
