Lightbulb Metal Container, And Black Lights.

    Hello Everyone!

I'm a new member, and new to growing as a matter o fact.

I've grown outside before, but never inside.. And I Happen to think I have a Nice little setup. Throw some comments, and some ideas at me please.

Now I Dont have pictures, but I will try to Describe it to you the best I can.

I'm growing in my Basement, Under heating vents (On the cealing of the basement) Which I Hope will give me cover from thermal devices.

    THE GROWING CONTAINER:
Well, When I Moved into my house, there was an OLD OLD Metal Printer thingy in my basement, It was useless, so I made use of it, The whole thing is about 5 feet tall, 2.5 wide. Now below, where I guess things were stored (Enclosed Metal Box type thingy), It stands about 4 feet tall, and 2.5 feet wide/long. There are 2 holes in the top of the storage container, which are about 1 inch in diameter, round. Which I Found usefull to release some air inside the container. The Door is like any other door, It is a pull door, latched onto the container, which opens out and to the side.

Now, There was enough room in there to Add a Small heater (To keep it warm inside the container, plus the metal radiates the heat inside, No heat is released from the container, except threw the cracks, where the door is at, which I had sealed off with Tape.)
I Mounted the black lights on the sides of the containers, and the Plants in the middle.

The Plants right now are sprouting inside little pudding containers, filled with soil, sitting on top of white paper, to reflect the black lights.

Now, They get water every night, and they are sprouting as we speak.
(We are about a week or two into growing)

The cords which power the black lights and the heater, go inside the container, threw a crack in the door, which is also covered up with tape (Matching the metal, Stealth like)

I Didn't have any outlets near the container where i put it, (I Moved the container, to the back part of the basement, close to the water heater, but seperated by a wall of 2x4's. So I Used an Extention cord, guided to the container, from the cealing, to the ground, set in the corners of the wall. and Covered by equipment in the room. with a 3 outlet plug in attached to it, Supplying power to everything I need.

So the whole thing is pretty much camoflauged into the basement, and the average person, would never suspect anything was going on. (Had few friends over, nobody noticed, Dont really care, But it's nice that they didnt notice anyway)

The Blacklights are turned off at night, The plants watered, and the heater lowered, to simulate the night and day effect.

The Basement never really gets any attention, besides from me, Thats where my room is

But, Throw some ideas at me, Tell me what you think, And I Will try to get some pictures to you by the end of the week.

Black lights won't work, switch them with cool white tubes, and some compact flourescents.

I've already been there and thank you

yes, I Have read recently that black lights produce the plants with the lowest amount of health,

I'll just switch the bulbs out with regular soft watt tubes, and add a few things while I do this

    Wink

    *Bump*

Well I Fixed it now, And yes, the black lights were killing the sprouts I had had, The first one i'm glad it killed because it was male, and I was left with the females, And I was able to save them,

They are doing Much better in the fish tank I supplied, and the new lights

How in the hell did you know a seedling was a male or a female? Is this some new sexing trick you've learnt? If so, please share.

    SiLENT,

    Full stop dude!!!

First of all, you are in a forum discussing your grow. Well this is cool, having a link to your my space is beyond not smart. You just provided the world with enough information to get yourself cooked.

If I have overstepped, please say, but I wish us all the best and want to encourage you to be careful. For our sake, your sake, and for all of those at Fairborn High School. Not busting on you. Just another head who cares.
