hi everyone, im having trouble with my 70w hps and my ecotechnics powerstar pro contactor/timer. I have 1 70w hps, 3 cfls and some fans running from the contactor. the problem is that the hps only starts every so often, one day it will come on with the timer, other days it wont, but the fans and cfls come on every single time. ive checked all my wiring, the bulb is new and i dont see what the problem could be as the light works and so does the contactor, just not in harmony all the time. any ideas anyone?

i doubt its the contactor if it is running the fans and cfl's fine.

maybe the ballast, or the bulb if it has been re-fired frequently

your gonna want to get a electrical meter an check for power at the bulb or the ballast and see where your losing your power. thats they only way to diagnose your issue.

start from the contactor and keep going down the electrical series. if you have power all the way through then your have a bad fixture of some sort.
