240 volts is for large appliances like washers, dryers, air conditioners. 120 volts (I think it might be 110 instead) is your standard voltage in regular household sockets. So if you're thinking of going 240 volts (they have a big plug at the end) it would have to plug in somewhere there is an appliance. Probably not the greatest place for a stealth grow. LOL Hope this helps.

um 120v yes is actually 110v, but its standard in america in all outlets except washer dryer, air conditioner....240v is standard use in UK Europe and pretty much any where else... benefite, well if you try to use 240v ballast in US, not good results will occur same with 120v ballast in europe

240 is more efficient same amount of power(say 1000watts) with like half the amperage draw..) If you can do it its a better choice.. BUT when it comes down to having to buy a 240v timer ext cords etc.. It might not be price effective for you off the bat.. All my ballasts can run either but I run 110 out of convenience
