Default Pc fan power source.
I have a few small pc fans i was wondering what i could power them with i'd like to make something at home but if i had to buy something i guess i could.

theres only three wires attached to a plug red-yellow-black.
Anyone got any ideas?

sorry if this is in the wrong section.
i'm going to use it for a Pc grow(seedlings)

Comp fans typically run on 12V, so you'll need some sort of transformer or an AC adapter that has a 120V input and a 12V output. Cut whatever plus is on there off and splice the wires. Depending on how many amps you need (per fan) you may have to either hook the fans up in series rather than parallel, so as not to decrease fan performance. You can get high amp AC adapters off of old routers or cable modems (generally between .5 and 1 amp), or low amp ones off of cell phone chargers (generally 300 mA). Look at the amp requirements on your PC fans and make the call. Good luck.

Yeah, just hook it up to a old cell charger. Red to red, black to black and white to white

Dont connect the 3rd wire to ANYTHING, its just for speed sensing in the PC.

go with the 9 volt output. just incase cause any higher could burn out the fan. unless ofcourse it says on the fan somwhere 12v.

Yes i see it on the back of the fan, but i hooked the 13.5v to it and it kinda made it seem like it was going to explode and the 9v seems to be working. It's only going to be for a little bit.
