Heat output comparison of 150w and 250w HPS.
Could anyone tell me the difference of heat emitted from a 250w hps compared to a 150? Both with seperate ballasts, not the all in one deals.
I have a small 30x18x36 tent and was thinking of trying a HTG 150w hps with the seperate ballast, about 70$. If the heat is similar I might as well get a 250 instead.
Do you guys think, with good ventilation, my little tent could house a 150w bulb? I have no experience with a HPS lamp.
Are you sure it's 30x18x36? Should be taller if it's a tent. In any case the heat difference is minimal between a 150W and a 250W; with either one you're going to have to vent that tent out really well, specially if it's the size you mention. The real differences start when you switch to 400W or higher, which you will need a cool tube of some sorts to keep the temps at bay; with a 150W or a 250W just make sure you have a fan blowing across the canopy and you have fresh air coming into your tent or the room where you have the tent, be sure to monitor your temps at all times when dealing with any HID light, don't let them go over 90 (if you don't have supplemental CO2). Hope it helps.
EDITED.: Remember after genetics, lighting is the next important aspect of growing.
just rember watts = heat so 100 extra watts = extra heat

I plan on mounting my fan set up on top of the tent on a piece of plywood, the ballast could also go up here. It would extract straight out the top leave plenty of room, minus the filter, to maneuver a 150watt, especially if I cut the hood down.
My fan is about 75 cfm so the negative pressure in my tiny tent is pretty great. The room it sits in is a spare bedroom, open and stays pretty cool.
I think i'll be good to go then. Thanks for the info. I believe i'll be ordering one to flower this time around.
I almost forgot, I ordered in grade a genetics for my 2nd grow, woot, I just want to rid of the cfls, the positioning and the not so large as they could be buds.

The difference with that is that the CFL's are usually scattered, and thus so is the heat, so it's easier to manage; with a HID light the heat comes from one source so it's more intense and harder to cool.
