Default Don't understand this
I'm on my third grow and am having problems with my 3 week old seedlings. I can't post pics but can describe my problem. As I stated, I had two successful grows with pretty much the same setup so I am confused. These seedlings are from seeds from my last grow so could it be bad genetics?

My setup is as follows:

1000 watt hps
3 x 8 ft. closet, 8 ft. high area
two fans
happy frog potting soil
temp 85 day/75 night
lights 18/6 about 3 feet away from plants
water every 4-5 days with bottled water (no food)
ph is around 7-7.5

The plants seem to do fine until about the second week and then I see some leaf deformation. They usually lose their dark green color and turn to more of a lime green color and the leaves show some curling down. They are not growing so I"m about ready to shut down the whole grow and try again.

It may be bad seeds. It just doesn't make any sense because I had two successful grows before.

Any help would be appreciated...thanks!

Default Nitrogen
I usually don't feed until the fourth or fifth set of leaves, doesn't the soil have enough nutes for starting out?

If nothing in the grow room has been altered i would suggest you use a flourescent light. during the begining veg stage those plants love the blue colored light as opposed to the orange Hps.

If you aren't growing an autoflowering plant, I agree with custodio. Get some 6500K cfl's. Shit even if you are growing autoflowering plants, get the 6500's.

you can VERY well veg under hps....lighting has shit to do with this situation. it light was the problem, they would be stretching, not dying!

First of all take it easy. Second it may not have to do with the type of light, but it definitely could have something to do with it being 85 degrees, and it also may have something to do with the fact that his 1000watt HPS is 3 feet away from the plants. Plants stretching isn't the only light problem, when the plant first becomes bothered by the heat from the light they usually curl to reserve their moisture. Correct me if I'm wrong (which I'm sure you will do either way), but usually you want a light like that 5-6 feet away. Last, I never said that you can't grow all the way with HPS, of course you can, but if you look anywhere on the internet including here, it's good to have some blues from the spectrum for veg and reds(HPS) for flowering...or at least a mix. Also He's right, the soil he's using probably has some light nutrients in it to get him through the seedling stage.
